Job Descriptions:

Job Summary

The Health and Nutrition Promoter will be responsible for conducting outreach and awareness sessions, promoting key health and nutrition messages, and supporting referrals to services. This role is vital to improving maternal, child, and adolescent health and nutrition outcomes, particularly in underserved or high-risk areas.

Community Outreach and Awareness

  • Conduct regular health and nutrition promotion sessions with women, adolescent girls, caregivers, and community members.
  • Deliver age-appropriate information on maternal and child health, nutrition, immunization, hygiene, breastfeeding, and complementary feeding.
  • Use approved communication materials and participatory methods to engage target groups effectively.
  • Promote awareness about the importance of early care-seeking, vaccination, antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), and child growth monitoring.

Support to Safe Spaces and Community Structures

  • Collaborate with Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) teams to integrate health and nutrition messaging into empowerment sessions.
  • Identify and support the formation of peer support groups for mothers and adolescent girls.
  • Coordinate with teachers, community elders, and health volunteers to increase outreach and mobilization.

Referral and Service Linkages

  • Support referral of children, pregnant and lactating women (PLWs), and malnourished individuals to nearby health and nutrition services.
  • Work with health facilities and mobile teams to facilitate follow-ups and ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain records of referrals and outcomes in coordination with the case management team or health officer.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track participation in awareness sessions and collect basic data on knowledge and behavior change among beneficiaries.
  • Submit weekly and monthly activity reports, including key messages delivered, issues identified, and community feedback.
  • Identify and report any barriers to service access, misinformation, or cultural beliefs that may impact program outcomes.

Capacity Building and Team Collaboration

  • Attend regular training sessions on health, nutrition, and interpersonal communication techniques.
  • Share lessons learned and community observations with program staff to support adaptive programming.
  • Coordinate closely with Gender, Protection, and SBC teams to ensure aligned messaging and support.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Diploma or certificate in community health, public health, nursing, midwifery, or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in community outreach, health promotion, nutrition, or related areas.
  • Experience working with women, children, and adolescents in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Familiarity with cultural and social dynamics of the target community is essential.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with diverse community members.
  • Ability to speak the local language fluently and deliver clear health messages.
  • Good facilitation and group discussion skills.
  • Commitment to working with vulnerable populations and respecting cultural sensitivities.
  • Basic reporting and record-keeping skills.
