Job Description

 

Job Summary

 

The Mining Engineer is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of the project. The incumbent will work closely with the Mining Project Manager to manage and guide all phases of mining, with a particular focus on exploration, extraction, and production. Their role also includes mine rehabilitation, processing, marketing of the final product, and handling administrative duties. Ensuring the safety of workers, staff, and the project site is also a key responsibility of the Mining Engineer.

 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  1. Mining Exploration and Extraction
  • Collaborate with the Mining Department on the project’s exploration activities.
  • Assist the Mining Department in preparing exploration reports.
  • Support the Mining Department in conducting feasibility studies, estimating reserves, and assessing the economic value of the mine.
  • Prepare and organize plans and reports related to extraction and production activities.
  • Manage, control, supervise, and evaluate all extraction and production operations.
  • Assist in procuring and organizing machinery needed for mining operations.
  • Support in recruiting personnel required for mining operations.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager in establishing processing plants and managing their operations.
  1. Environment, Health & Safety, and Social Affairs
  • Work with the Mining Department to prepare plans and reports on the environmental and social impact of the project area.
  • Assist in obtaining environmental permits from the National Environmental Protection Agency and submitting reports.
  • Establish a Health & Safety Committee at the mine site, monitor its activities, and ensure a safe working environment for employees and external visitors.
  • Manage and implement the company’s social responsibilities according to project plans, proposals, and relevant laws.
  • Assist in resolving local disputes if they arise.
  1. Management Activities
  • Conduct and review feasibility studies of the project in terms of profit, cost, schedule, resources, etc.
  • Assist in preparing budget plans for equipment, processing plants, and technical and operational aspects of the project.
  • Prepare progress reports and share them with the Mining Program Manager.
  • Monitor and evaluate project activities to ensure they are executed according to plan.
  • Ensure all operations comply with laws, regulations, mining procedures, and mining licenses.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, the Department of Mines, other contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing strategies for marketing and distributing the final products.
  • Manage subcontractor agreements related to the project.
  • Coordinate with the company’s Mining Department on all project matters and work closely with the Project Manager to facilitate smooth project processes.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor to support the project and company goals effectively.

  • Reports to: Project Manager / Program Manager

Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of field experience in mining and processing operations.
  • Full proficiency in Dari and Pashto, with a working knowledge of English.
  • Proficient in essential computer programs, particularly GIS.
  • Skilled in preparing technical plans and reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for mining and geological tasks.
  • Effective project management and organizational skills to oversee multiple mining operations.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in mining.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills for coordinating with staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to field conditions and make decisions under challenging circumstances.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance in all project activities.
