Job Description

The Senior Hydrologist and Hydraulic Engineer is responsible for leading hydrologic and hydraulic studies, analysis, and design for water-related infrastructure projects. The role ensures that surface water, drainage, flood protection, and hydraulic structures are designed in accordance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and environmental considerations. The Senior Hydrologist and Hydraulic Engineer provides technical leadership, coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, and supports project delivery from planning through construction.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent professional registration is an advantage.
  • Minimum 8–12 years of experience in hydrology and hydraulic engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of hydrologic analysis, rainfall-runoff modeling, flood estimation, and watershed management.
  • Proven experience in hydraulic design of open channels, culverts, bridges, stormwater systems, flood protection works, and hydraulic structures.
  • Familiarity with international and local standards such as FHWA, AASHTO, USACE, Eurocodes, BS, local drainage manuals, and donor requirements.
  • Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, MIKE, InfoWorks, or similar).
  • Experience with flood risk assessment, hydraulic reports, and design documentation.
  • Understanding of climate variability, extreme events, and resilient infrastructure design.
  • Ability to review and approve hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, models, and drawings.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, including mentoring junior engineers.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage hydrologic and hydraulic studies for infrastructure and water resources projects.
  • Conduct rainfall-runoff analysis, flood frequency analysis, and watershed assessments.
  • Develop and review hydraulic models for rivers, channels, culverts, bridges, and drainage systems.
  • Prepare and review design calculations, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, environmental regulations, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with road, bridge, geotechnical, environmental, and construction teams.
  • Support flood risk assessments, climate resilience studies, and mitigation planning.
  • Review contractor submissions, method statements, and as-built documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior hydrologists and hydraulic engineers.
  • Participate in design reviews, value engineering, and risk assessments.
  • Conduct site visits to assess hydrologic conditions and support construction activities.
  • Liaise with clients, authorities, and stakeholders on hydrologic and hydraulic matters.
  • Support project planning, quality assurance, and compliance reporting.
