Afghanistan Relief and Sustainable Development Organization (ARSDO) is a national, non-profit development organization established in 2017 and registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan (Registration No. 4190). Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Nutrition Counsellor is responsible for providing health and nutrition counselling services to mothers, children under five, and pregnant and lactating women. The role focuses on promoting appropriate Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices, screening and classifying malnutrition cases, conducting growth monitoring sessions, and ensuring proper referral and follow-up. The position contributes to improving community health and reducing malnutrition rates in line with ARSDO’s health objectives

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

·       Provide counselling to mothers of infants, pregnant women, and lactating mothers on appropriate nutrition and feeding practices.

·       Conduct growth monitoring and record measurements of all children under two years of age.

·       Perform anthropometric measurements (weight, height, age, MUAC, and edema check) for all children under five years.

·       Classify children based on their nutritional status (normal, moderate, or severe malnutrition).

·       Refer malnourished children and mothers to the appropriate health services for treatment and follow-up.

·       Conduct regular health and nutrition education sessions at the health facility level.

·       Organize food demonstration sessions at the clinic to promote locally available nutritious foods.

·       Participate in monthly meetings with Community Health Workers (CHWs) and support them in nutrition-related activities.

·       Prepare and submit monthly nutrition reports to the supervisor.

·       Perform any other relevant tasks assigned by the HF In-Charge or Cluster Manager.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  •            Degree/diploma in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in nutrition counseling or community health programs.

·       Proficiency in Pashto and Dari; basic understanding of English preferred.

·       Previous experience in nutrition or community health programs is an advantage.

Working Conditions:

· Standard working hours apply; flexibility may be required during emergencies or special events.
