Assistant Medical Director

Morning Star Development Organization (MSD) is an international development organization that has been operating in Afghanistan since 2002. The head office of Morning Star Development Organization is in Kabul with the registration number (63) in the Ministry of Economy (MoE), and with the registration number (1339) in the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).  MSD currently has projects in Bamyan, Herat and Kabul provinces.

The assistant medical director will collaborate with the MSD medical director in overseeing all of MSD’s medical and community health programs; advising MSD leadership; assessing and meeting training needs of staff; supporting quality improvement efforts.  Reports to the MSD Country Director.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the medical director to support, enable, and advise Morning Star Development medical programs for optimal impact
• Assist the medical director in evaluating the needs of the staff and programs, recommend training/ resources
• Assist in meeting staff training needs
• Support the medical director and managers of medical programs in preparing reports and checking for accuracy.
• Evaluate needs of the community; advise and implement new programs or adjustments in existing programs
• Ensure programs maintain compliance with government regulations
• Travel to other cities to visit Morning Star Development program sites as needed
• Help with fundraising for medical programs
• Participate in team meetings

Qualifications:

• Embrace Morning Star Development’s vision and mission
• Fluent in spoken and written English, proficient in Dari
• Licensed medical doctor (M.D.) with completion of post-graduate training program
• Experienced health trainer/practitioner
• Medical work experience in cross cultural setting
• Personable and able to cooperate with and lead others
• Able to travel internationally to attend meetings, conferences and assist with fundraising
