About NSRDO

NSRDO is a youth-led organization founded in 2006, dedicated to empowering marginalized women, children, and people with disabilities across Afghanistan. We focus on uplifting vulnerable communities by addressing critical issues such as poverty, education, WASH, healthcare, and sustainable development. Guided by the belief that everyone deserves a fair chance at a better future, we work tirelessly to provide resources, support, and hope to those in need.

We also work in food & security, agriculture, emergency relief, nutrition, peacebuilding, livelihood, community infrastructure, and the defense of human rights. NSRDO commenced its operations in 2005. Since then, NSRDO has been operating in Kabul and other provinces of Afghanistan and has regional offices in Nangarhar, Kandahar, Herat, Kunduz, Bamyan, and Paktia Provinces, along with its head office in Kabul.
NSRDO was registered in the Ministry of Planning by decision no. (951) dated 25/6/1383 and entitled to work in the capital, Kabul, and other provinces. This is also reregistered in the Ministry of Economy by decision no. (598) dated 8/6/06. Additionally, the US Embassy, the European Commission, the Canadian Fund, UNPP, UNGM, MoLSA, MoMD, MoE, and MoPH all have NSRDO registered.

For over 20 years, we have collaborated with donors, volunteers, and partner organizations to create meaningful, lasting change. Our mission is to deliver immediate relief while implementing sustainable solutions that enhance the quality of life for future generations.

NSRDO operates solely in Afghanistan, aiming to transform itself into one of Afghanistan’s foremost- developed NGOs. Although it continues to respond to the needs of rural communities in order to improve their living condition and utilize the resource in a well and transparent manner. NSRDO endeavors to reach the most disadvantaged groups in Afghan society often under very difficult circumstances. Among those with whom NSRDO works are poor families, women, farmers, unemployed and the uneducated population across the country.

Job Description

The Finance Assistant will report directly to the Finance Officer and will be responsible for providing financial and administrative support to ensure the effective management of project funds and financial operations for the School Feeding Project. The Finance Assistant will ensure compliance with NSRDO policies, financial regulations, and donor requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and processing payment requests, ensuring all supporting documents are complete and accurate in accordance with NSRDO’s financial policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including cashbooks, ledgers, and expense reports, for the School Feeding Project.
  • Support the preparation of monthly financial reports, including budget utilization and expenditure tracking, and submit them to the Finance Officer.
  • Monitor project expenses to ensure they remain within the approved budget and flag any discrepancies or overspending.
  • Assist in preparing monthly cash requests for project activities and ensure timely submission to the Finance Officer.
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of all financial transactions, including invoices, receipts, and contracts, for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Reconcile cash and bank accounts regularly, ensuring accuracy and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely payments to contractors, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Support the preparation of financial data for donor reports and audits, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines and requirements.
  • Track and monitor advances issued to staff and ensure timely liquidation with appropriate documentation.
  • Provide financial guidance to field staff to ensure compliance with NSRDO’s financial policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of payroll and ensure accurate calculations of salaries, deductions, and benefits for project staff.
  • Monitor the implementation of financial controls and procedures at the field level to ensure accountability and transparency in financial transactions.
  • Provide support during internal and external audits, including preparing required documentation and responding to audit queries.
  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure alignment of financial operations with the overall goals and objectives of the School Feeding Project.
  • Report to the Finance Officer on any financial irregularities or challenges that may affect project implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with NSRDO’s child safeguarding and ‘do no harm’ principles in all financial processes and transactions.
  • Perform any other financial tasks assigned by the Finance Officer or other supervisors to support the efficient implementation of the project.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably with national or international NGOs.
  • Strong knowledge of financial management practices, accounting principles, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address financial discrepancies and challenges.
  • Proficiency in Pashto and Dari (reading, writing, and speaking); working knowledge of English is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment under pressure.
  • Knowledge of donor regulations and compliance requirements is an asset.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial documentation and reporting.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations as required to support financial operations and monitoring
