Job Description

The IMAM- HRM Trainer is responsible for planning and delivering training on the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) approach to nutrition health workers. The trainer ensures that IMAM services are implemented according to national and international guidelines to improve the quality of treatment for children suffering from acute malnutrition.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Plan, organize, and conduct (IMAM-HRM) training for health facility staff working under BPHS and Non-BPHS implementing partners.
  • Facilitate structured training sessions for doctors, nurses, nutrition counselors, and midwife  using standardized training packages aligned with national nutrition guidelines.
  • Develop, adapt, and update training materials, presentations, case studies, and practical exercises related to IMAM programming.
  • Conduct practical demonstrations on anthropometric measurements and case management protocols.
  • Evaluate participants’ knowledge and skills through pre-tests, post-tests, and practical assessments.
  • Provide on-the-job mentoring, coaching, and follow-up support to trained staff to strengthen their capacity in IMAM service delivery.

Technical Support and Quality Assurance

  • Provide technical support to health facilities to ensure proper implementation of IMAM protocols according to national and international guidelines.
  • Support the establishment and strengthening of IMAM services in health facilities and community platforms.
  • Ensure accurate screening, diagnosis, admission, treatment, referral, and discharge procedures for children with acute malnutrition.
  • Monitor correct use of anthropometric measurements including MUAC, weight-for-height/length, and bilateral pitting edema assessment.
  • Guide health workers in the appropriate use and management of therapeutic nutrition commodities such as Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and supplementary foods.
  • Support health facilities in improving quality of care, infection prevention practices, and adherence to IMAM treatment protocols.
  • Provide technical input for improving nutrition counseling and community awareness activities.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive training reports and submit them to the Project Manager and relevant departments in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of training activities including participant lists, attendance sheets, training evaluations, and certificates.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and challenges related to IMAM training and implementation.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly  program reports.
  • Ensure proper documentation of supervision findings and follow-up actions.

5. Coordination and Collaboration

  • Coordinate closely with government health authorities, provincial health offices, and implementing partners under BPHS and Non-BPHS programs.
  • Collaborate with nutrition program teams to ensure effective integration of IMAM services with other health and nutrition interventions.
  • Coordinate with project manager for conducting the IMAM-HRM training. 
  • Participate in nutrition technical working groups, coordination meetings, and relevant program discussions.
  • Participate in IMAM-HRM Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions in the Central Region as required.

Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree in public health, Nursing, Nutrition from recognized university

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in nutrition or public health programs.
  • Candidates who have received IMAM Training of Trainers (ToT) will be preferred.
  • Proven experience in IMAM, MIYCN and CMAM programming.
  • Experience conducting IMAM training and capacity building for health facilities staffs.

Technical Skills

  •  Strong knowledge of Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) protocols and program implementation.
  • Proficiency in anthropometric measurements including MUAC, weight-for-height/length, and edema assessment.
  • Knowledge of nutrition program components including OPD-MAM- OPD-SAM and IPD- SAM component
  • Strong communication skills in facilitating training. 
  • Ability to conduct training, mentoring, and supportive supervision for health facility staff.
  •  Skills in nutrition data management, reporting, and monitoring of program indicators.
  • Knowledge of community-based nutrition approaches and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counseling.

Languages

  • Fluency in Dari or Pashto required.
  • Working knowledge of English preferred.
