Job Description

Purpose of the Position

The Agriculture and Livestock Director will lead agricultural and rural livelihood programs in ASLO, managing projects at the national office in Kabul, ensuring high-quality program design, donor coordination, and sustainable implementation in the agriculture sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage agriculture and livestock development programs and projects.
  • Design, develop, and implement new programs in the agriculture sector.
  • Coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture, sector partners, and international donors.
  • Promote sustainable agriculture and livestock practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate field activities to ensure project effectiveness.
  • Support Agriculture and Livestock  initiatives and livelihoods programs.
  • Prepare high-quality proposals for donor funding and lead fundraising efforts.
  • Develop and submit reports to donors in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with national and international donors (including EU, USAID, UN agencies, GIZ, FCDO, World Bank, UNICEF, UNFPA, and UN Women).
  • Ensure smooth project coordination, team leadership, and capacity building of staff.
  • Travel to provinces for project supervision and donor meetings as required.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Agriculture, Animal Science, or Rural Development.
  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in agriculture or livestock projects.
  • Strong experience in project management, donor coordination, proposal writing, and fundraising.
  • Prior experience with international donors and government agencies is highly desirable.
  • Ability to design and launch new sector-specific programs.
  • Commitment to work with ASLO for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Ability to travel to provinces across Afghanistan.

  • Ability to prepare high-quality donor reports.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.

  • Proficiency in English, Dari, and/or Pashto (written and spoken).
