Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose:

The Midwife works in the HSC/outreach team to predominantly deliver RMNCH care services to women. She assumes responsibility and accountability for their practice, applying up-to-date knowledge and skills in caring for each woman and family.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Give the necessary supervision, care, and advice to women during pregnancy, labor, and the post-partum period.
  2. Manage complications in pregnancy and childbirth, in accordance with the principles of basic emergency obstetric care.
  3. Provide primary care to women of reproductive age, in accordance with the BPHS.
  4. MUAC screening of all pregnant and lactating women and referral of those with MUAC less than 23 cm to the nutrition team for treatment
  5. IYCF counselling and education sessions for all pregnant and lactating women
  6. Provide iron folic acid supplementation to all pregnant women. Counsel and educate women, the family, and the community in relevant areas of health, including preparation for parenthood and childbirth.
  7. Support for the’ thinking healthy program’ implementation.
  8. Obtain specialized assistance as necessary (consultation or referral).
  9. Perform administrative duties such as patient charting, recording, and reporting of data, clinic and/or facility management, or coordination of specific educational or outreach programs.
  10. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives; continuous quality improvement initiative; safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards.
  11. Participate in the provision of 24-hour, six-day maternity service, which may require evening, night.
  12. Identify and report immediately any problem that interferes in the delivery of services or in achieving the program objectives to the team leader, and the team leader to his/her immediate supervisor.
  13. Participate in weekly meetings of the health facility to share information and discuss the progress of the program.
  14. The duties and responsibilities listed in this document are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily inclusive in size. You may be required to do additional tasks and travel to other parts of the country if required.

Experience:

A minimum of 1 year of professional experience working as a midwife at the primary health care level.

Competency :

Strong interpersonal, networking, and communication skills.

Speaking skills: Pashto and Dari.
