Afghan Peace Builders Humanitarian Organization APBHO has emerged as a non-governmental, non-political, not-for-profit organization in April 2019 with its long experience as a team (Youth Council) advocating for the rights of communities especially children and women affected by conflicts, and humanitarian crisis in fragile settings.

Most of APBHO’s peacebuilding efforts focus on community-based conflict resolution and environmental peace-building on grass-root level.  APBHO aims to shift repressive gender norms and equip citizens with the skills to resolve any type of differences and conflicts non-violently.

Afghan Peace Builders Humanitarian Organization (APBHO) strategically implements sustainable economic empowerment/asset creation, time-critical emergency responses with various commodities including Food and Non-Food Items, research, advocacy, and promotion of peace projects with a cross-cutting focus on youth and women.

The purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise, analyze market needs and opportunities of key value chains, advising on technical subject for the project beneficiaries.

Main responsibilities:

• Lead the process of value chain development; design and implement interventions on local market strengthening, establishing linkages and entrepreneurship development of cooperatives and business entity in close coordination with project team members, government entities and other key stakeholders.
• Conduct market research to identify demand, trends, and opportunities for target products and services and identify existing value chains to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop strategies and implement interventions to enhance value chain efficiency, transparency and inclusiveness; connect producers with local, provincial and central markets.
• Identify and establish relationships among key actors of value chains such as producers, buyers, traders, and other key market actors.
• Support producer groups and cooperatives in adopting best practices for quality assurance, packaging, and branding.
• Facilitate preparation and implementation of business plans of cooperatives on value chain development approach and enhancing marketing skills of the value chain actors of identified commodities.
• Support technical trainers and livelihood officers to implement project activities effectively.
• Assist the completion of the baseline and endline surveys.
• Plan and conduct market analysis and other relevant socio-economic studies.
• Develop relevant training materials, manuals and guidelines related to marketing and value chain activities.
• Marketing and value chain officer will conduct thorough market assessment to guide in commodity pricing, advertising, and product positioning.
• Any other tasks assigned by project manager.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Rural Development, or a related field.

• Relevant vocational or technical training in market systems, value chain development, or agribusiness is desirable.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in value chain development, market analysis, agribusiness, or livelihoods programming.

• Experience facilitating market linkages, cooperative development, and entrepreneurship initiatives is preferred.

Technical Competencies

• Strong knowledge of market assessment, value chain analysis, and commodity marketing.

• Ability to identify market opportunities, gaps, and trends, and recommend appropriate interventions.

• Skilled in designing and implementing strategies for market strengthening, cooperatives, and small businesses.

• Experience in business planning, quality assurance, branding, and product positioning.

• Ability to develop training materials, manuals, and guidelines for marketing and value chain activities.

Reporting & Computer Skills

• Strong report writing, documentation, and data analysis skills.

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data presentation.

• Ability to prepare market assessments, technical reports, and analytical documents.

Language Skills

• Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is required.

• English proficiency for report writing and technical documentation is preferred.
