Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.

The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.

AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.

Job Descriptions:

  • Provide perfectly general local, regional anesthesia concerning the type of operation.
  • Perform physical examination of patient pre-operation and choice the type of anesthesia.
  • Check lab results and advise more lab investigation if necessary.
  • Ensure all required medicines and equipment for anesthesia department is properly prepared before giving anesthesia (review the checklist to ensure all equipment and medicine concerning their expiry dates are present and precise.)
  • Take care of all anesthesia machines and other equipment.
  • Take care of patients after sugary (in the recovery phase).
  • Support the provision of SCRP for all departments.
  • Counsel and educate patients in relevant areas of health.
  • Obtain specialized assistance as necessary (consultation or referral)
  • Share knowledge, skill and expertise with medical, midwifery and nursing students and all professional staff concerning their job requirements.
  • Supervise performance of limited, selected administrative duties such as patient charting, recording and reporting of date, clinic and or facility management, or coordination of specific educational programs.
  • Participate in clinical audit, professional organization and related committees and in continuing education opportunities.
  • Follow established department policies, procedures and objectives: continuous quality improvement initiative; safety, environmental and infection prevention standards.
  • Supervision of Anesthetic technician and request of all necessary material for operation theatre and specially anesthesia.
  • Participate in provision of 24-hours hospital service, which may require evening, night.
  • Identify and report immediately any problems which interfere in the operation theater.
  • Participate in morning report, case presentation and other meetings of hospital to share information and discuss the program progress
  • Provision of 24-hour hospital services while your colleague is on leave.
  • You are reporting to medical director who can assign you any other duties.

Job Requirements:

Education: Having Post Graduate Diploma in Anesthesiology

Work Experience: At least three years’ practical experience in hospital as Anesthesia

Skill: Good communication skills in Dari and proven management ability.
