Job Descriptions:

Job Summary

The Access Officer is responsible for facilitating safe, dignified, and sustained access to project locations by closely monitoring local dynamics, engaging with key stakeholders, and supporting program teams in the field. The role plays a critical part in mitigating access-related risks and ensuring that humanitarian and development activities can be implemented effectively in sensitive and hard-to-reach areas. The Access Officer contributes to context analysis, community acceptance, and operational continuity in line with organizational policies and humanitarian principles.

Key Responsibilities

1. Access Monitoring and Analysis

  • Monitor local context, community dynamics, and access-related developments in the area of operation.

  • Provide regular updates, briefings, and written reports to field and program teams on access trends and potential risks.

  • Conduct access assessments for new and existing project locations to inform operational planning and decision-making.

  • Identify barriers to access and propose practical solutions in coordination with program, security, and management teams.

2. Stakeholder Liaison and Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain effective, trust-based relationships with community leaders, elders, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Support community acceptance of project activities through regular dialogue, information sharing, and responsive communication.

  • Represent the organization in local coordination forums and meetings when required, ensuring a positive and professional image of the organization.

3. Field Support and Operational Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with program, logistics, and security teams to plan safe travel, field movements, and access routes.

  • Provide pre-departure access briefings to staff and support the development of movement plans.

  • Contribute to contingency and emergency preparedness planning, including identifying alternate access options.

  • Support incident reporting related to access constraints or community tensions, ensuring timely communication with relevant departments.

Job Requirements:

  • Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, or related discipline.

  • Experience:

- Minimum 3 years of experience in access, liaison, or field coordination roles.

  • Technical Skills:

- Strong knowledge of local political and security dynamics.

 

- Ability to assess risks and advise on mitigation strategies.

  • Soft Skills:

- Effective communicator and negotiator.

- Culturally sensitive with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Other Requirements:

- Fluency in local languages.

- Willingness to work in field-based settings.
