War Child’s flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women, and their families through its humanitarian and development programming in Protection, Health, Education and Livelihood sectors in various provinces of Afghanistan.

The Community Mobilizer will be responsible for engaging local communities, facilitating awareness-raising activities, including organizing community dialogues, supporting Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) and case management services, and promoting positive parenting and child protection practices. The role requires strong facilitation, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work closely with children, caregivers, local leaders, and community volunteers in line with WCC’s safeguarding and accountability standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct community sensitization and mobilization on project activities, objectives, and services.
• Build strong relationships with community leaders, elders, religious figures, and local authorities to foster trust and acceptance.
• Facilitate community dialogues and group discussions to reinforce collective responsibility for child protection.
• Support transparent selection of beneficiaries for psychosocial support, case management, winterization kits, and parenting education.

• Deliver child rights, child protection and EORE awareness sessions for children, adolescents, parents, and caregivers.
• Use participatory and child-friendly methods (storytelling, games, role-play, visual tools) during awareness and education sessions.
• Support CFS facilitators and community volunteers with orientation and mentoring to ensure quality delivery of awareness sessions.
• Collect and document community feedback to inform project improvements.

• Assist in identifying suitable venues for CFSs and engaging communities in their establishment.
• Support CFS facilitators and animators in conducting structured psychosocial, recreational, and life skills activities.
• Help monitor attendance, participation, and wellbeing of children engaged in CFS activities.
• Encourage equal participation of girls and boys in all activities.

• Work closely with case workers and psychosocial counselors to identify and refer vulnerable children, including UASCs and GBV survivors.
• Support awareness among families on available referral pathways and services.
• Participate in follow-up of referred cases, ensuring confidentiality and survivor-centered approaches.

• Promote WCC’s Community Feedback and Response Mechanism (CFRM) to ensure accountability to affected populations.
• Ensure compliance with WCC’s Child Safeguarding Policy, PSEA Policy, Gender Policy, and Code of Conduct.
• Report any safeguarding or protection concerns immediately, following WCC’s reporting protocols.
• Support inclusion of marginalized groups (girls, children with disabilities, female-headed households) in all activities.

• Maintain accurate records of mobilization, awareness sessions, and participation data disaggregated by age and gender.
• Submit regular activity reports to the Project Coordinator/Senior Project Officer.
• Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) processes through documentation of lessons learned and success stories.

Academic Background and Knowledge/ Experience

• Minimum high school diploma (Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education, Social Work or relevant field is preferred).
• 3 to 5 years of experience in community mobilization, awareness-raising, or child protection-related work with NGOs or community-based organizations.
• Demonstrated experience in facilitating awareness sessions and community meetings in child protection and mine/EORE education.
• Good understanding of child protection, safeguarding, gender, and humanitarian principles.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage in diverse community groups.
• Experience working in multicultural and fragile contexts, with sensitivity to cultural and religious dynamics.
• Ability to read, write, and speak Dari and/or Pashto fluently, basic English an asset.
• Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach districts under challenging conditions.
