About LEFAO

The Liberty, Equality, Fraternity Afghanistan Organization (LEFAO) is a national NGO working in the fields of education, health, child protection, women empowerment and social services. The organization serves the vulnerable population through education and vocational training in different parts of the country with the support of internal and external donors. The aim of the organizational services is to enhance the local capacity of the vulnerable population to stand on their own foot in the future and solve their problems.  LEFAO is currently running an emergency medical assistance project for the earthquake victims in Kunar province.

Job Description

  • Provide psychological first aid (PFA) to individuals in acute distress immediately after the disaster.
  • Offer individual and group counseling sessions for earthquake survivors, especially vulnerable groups (women, children, elderly, persons with disabilities).
  • Support survivors) with confidential counseling and referral for further protection and medical services.
  • Identify and manage cases of trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress in affected communities.
  • Facilitate and activities to help children cope with shock and trauma.

Community Engagement & Awareness:

  • Conduct community-based psychosocial activities to reduce stigma and promote emotional well-being.
  • Provide education sessions on stress management, coping mechanisms, and resilience building.
  • Work with community leaders and families to support safe reintegration and community healing.

Referral & Coordination:

  • Identify cases needing specialized psychiatric or medical care and ensure timely referral to higher-level facilities.
  • Coordinate with medical staff, social workers, and protection teams for holistic support.
  • Contributes to inter-agency coordination on mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS).

Reporting & Monitoring:

  • Maintain confidential counseling records and case notes.
  • Provide input for weekly/monthly reports on psychosocial activities and trends.

Track and monitor referrals and follow-up on high-risk cases.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in counseling or psychosocial support, preferably in emergency or humanitarian settings.
  • Trained in Psychological First Aid (PFA), trauma counseling, or MHPSS approaches.
  • Experience working with survivors of trauma, or displacement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage high caseloads in emergency contexts.
  • Fluency in local language.
