Since 2006, the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) in Kabul, Afghanistan, has served patients from all 34 provinces. Job Description

Regular Responsibilities:

  • Assist the senior colleagues in ICU and Emergency
  • Performing night duties and emergency patients care
  • Coordinate with the senior colleagues in case of any medical issue arising
  • Coordinate with ICU consultants in case if admission or discharge is required
  • Complete a brief admission examination on each patient when appropriate and document clinical findings
  • Attend ward rounds with consulting staff, as required, and be available to discuss patient treatment plans
  • Inform admitting consultants of changes in medical condition of patients and of relevant action taken
  • Follow the instructions of consultants for their specific regime for each individual patient
  • Initiate and alter in-patient prescriptions at consultant’s request
  • Write up “to take home prescriptions” for patients as required
  • Visit all in-patients daily and document in clinical notes
  • To be familiar with all relevant procedures/policies
  • Intubation of patients, managing sedation for them and inserting Arterial line or CVC.
  • Care of critical patients in ICU
  • Assessment of patients in life-threatening situation in FMIC
  • Inform patient’s families & attendants about the patients’ condition/situation
  • Assure quality and continuity of care in ICU 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Ensure the highest standard of quality and services are maintained.
  • Work closely with relevant departments and physicians for patient and department related activities
  • Contribute efforts to achieve Joint Commission International Accreditation mission at FMIC.
  • Any other relevant task assigned by direct supervisor.

Periodic Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Continuous Medical Education (CMEs)
  • Participation in Ethic Committee Meetings
  • Develop new services and technology for patient quality care and customer satisfaction.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to care of pediatrics and adult ICU patients
  • Ability to work under difficult and stressful working conditions
  • Excellent Communication and interpersonal skill in Dari, English and Pashto languages
  • Having Good computer skill specially in MS Office programs
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skill.
