Job Description

The psychosocial counselor is a key employee in the project to work closely with children and their families in the community, and s/he will be in direct contact with them for supporting children on their PSS and protection related concerns.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager the PSS counselor is responsible for the identification of the most vulnerable children for Mental Health & Psychosocial support as per defined selection criteria of program, with the close collaboration of a social worker and CFS’s Animator.

Duties and Responsibilites:

  • Ensure PSS goals and objectives are achieved as per the project plan.
  • Implement and promote MHPSS activities at the community and CFS levels.
  • Provide confidential counseling and quality psychosocial first aid.
  • Collaborate with Social Workers, Case Workers, and CFS Animators for case management.
  • Assess and refer cases according to referral criteria and procedures.
  • Identify major stressors affecting women and children in the community.
  • Promote psychological well-being and coordinate with service providers for referrals.
  • Maintain accurate case documentation and reports.
  • Develop care plans, conduct risk assessments, and provide psychoeducation sessions.
  • Conduct home visits and follow-up to ensure beneficiaries’ safety and progress.
  • Ensure activities align with KRO’s PSS guidelines and PFA principles.
  • Support community awareness and service mapping activities.
  • Participate in trainings and report regularly to the line manager.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Psychology, Mental Health, or a related field, with at least 3 years of professional experience.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills and contribution to achieving project goals.
  • Ability to support and advise colleagues on PSS-related activities.
  • Effective communication skills, adaptable to intercultural environments.
  • Demonstrates respect, professionalism, and ethical behavior toward others.
  • Good understanding of community practices, norms, and the ability to adapt to local contexts.
  • Experience in implementing Behavior Change Communication approaches.
  • Fluency in Pashto, Dari, and English (oral and written), with strong representation and coordination skills.
  • Local candidates from Helmand provinces are preferred.
  • Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including differences in nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, and culture.
