Job Description

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

The IMAM Master Trainer will design and deliver comprehensive training on the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), covering the full continuum of care including Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in OPD (OTP) and IPD settings, Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), Early MAM and High-Risk MAM (HRM).The trainer will ensure that healthcare workers acquire practical, standardized competencies to screen, classify, treat, counsel, and follow up malnutrition cases and nutritionally vulnerable groups, in accordance with national guidelines and WHO/UNICEF protocols.

Summary of Key Functions:

The incumbent of the position is responsible for:

  •  Deliver structured, participatory, and competency-based IMAM training sessions covering SAM (OPD/OTP and IPD), MAM, early malnutrition prevention, and HRM support.
  • Facilitate hands-on practice on screening and classification, including MUAC measurement, bilateral pitting edema assessment, weight-for-height/length, and risk identification.
  • OPD/OTP management of uncomplicated SAM, including appetite testing, RUTF dosage, routine medications, and follow-up.
  • IPD management of complicated SAM cases.
  • MAM management, including supplementary feeding approaches, nutrition counselling, and growth monitoring.
  • Early detection and prevention of malnutrition, with emphasis on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices and community engagement.
  • Identification and support of High-Risk MAM (HRM), including maternal nutrition, breastfeeding support, and treatment, and appropriate referral
  • Strengthen understanding of admission, discharge, non-response, and referral criteria across OPD and IPD services.
  • Facilitate case studies, simulations, and clinical exercises to strengthen clinical reasoning and decision-making.
  • Guide participants on the integration of IMAM with IYCF, primary healthcare, and WASH services.
  • Provide on-site mentoring, coaching, and constructive feedback to participants throughout the training.
  • Conduct and analyses pre- and post-training assessments to measure knowledge and skills gained.
  • Ensure adherence to training plans, quality standards, and reporting requirements in coordination with the training team.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive technical training reports to the Training Supervisor following each training session.

  •  Participants demonstrate improved knowledge of IMAM protocols aligned with national and WHO/UNICEF guidelines.
  • Healthcare workers correctly perform screening, classification, admission, treatment, and follow-up of acute malnutrition cases.
  • Demonstrated improvement in pre- and post-test scores and practical competencies.
  • Enhanced quality, consistency, and coverage of IMAM services, contributing to improved patient outcomes.

  • Possession of a national or international IMAM Training-of-Trainers (TOT) certificate.

Work Experience:

  • Proven experience in IMAM/CMAM programming, including both OPD (OTP) and IPD SAM management and MAM services. Previous experience facilitating adult learning sessions or clinical training is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition protocols, clinical assessment of SAM, MAM, EMAM, HRM, therapeutic feeding, and monitoring of inpatient cases.

Languages Skills:

  • Fluency in spoken and written Dari and Pashtu is a requirement. English Language skills are a plus point.
