About Afghan Peace Builders Humanitarian Organization (APBHO)

Afghan Peace Builders Humanitarian Organization APBHO has emerged as a non-governmental, non-political, not-for-profit organization in April 2019 with its long experience as a team (Youth Council) advocating for the rights of communities especially children and women affected by conflicts, and humanitarian crisis in fragile settings.

Job Description

Job Summary:

The purpose of the program is to provide socio-economic empowerment of the persons with disabilities and it aims to strengthen basic literacy and numeracy skills among vulnerable populations particularly disables to enhance their participation in livelihood and income-generating activities. It further promotes digital literacy and Braille training, integrated with technical and vocational skills development, practical learning sessions, and business plan preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

The Literacy Trainer is responsible for delivering structured literacy and numeracy training to targeted beneficiaries, ensuring improved reading, writing, and basic calculation skills aligned with livelihood and vocational outcomes:

  • Conduct literacy and numeracy training sessions using approved curriculum
  • Facilitate participatory and learner-centered teaching approaches.
  • Integrate literacy with vocational, entrepreneurship, and daily life applications.
  • Support beneficiaries in developing basic digital literacy skills (where applicable).
  • Prepare lesson plans, training materials, and practical exercises.
  • Assess learners’ progress through regular tests and evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, progress records, and reporting documentation.
  • Identify learners with special needs and provide tailored support, including referral where necessary.
  • Coordinate to align literacy training with livelihood components; TVET, SMEs, etc.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and gender-sensitive learning environment.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, or related field
  • Minimum 2–3 years of literacy training experience
  • Experience with NGOs/INGOs preferred
  • Fluency in local languages; basic English required

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong facilitation and training skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in rural and field-based environments
  • Cultural sensitivity and gender awareness
  • Report writing and documentation skills
  • Developed training materials/manuals
  • Experience in adult education methods
  • Basic monitoring and reporting skill
