Shining Star Educational Organization of Afghanistan (SSEOA) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan, with Registration Number 4388 dated February 18, 2018. Job Description

The Food Technologist will be responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of food commodities (Bread and High Energy Biscuits – HEB) under the School Feeding Project in Nuristan province. The position ensures that all food items meet WFP standards for nutritional value, hygiene, storage, and distribution. The Food Technologist will also support quality assurance processes across the supply chain, from procurement to final distribution in schools.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Quality Assurance & Control

• Ensure all food commodities meet WFP quality and nutritional standards.
• Inspect incoming food items (Bread and HEB) for quality, contamination, and compliance.
• Monitor storage conditions to prevent spoilage, contamination, or quality deterioration.
• Conduct periodic quality checks at warehouses and distribution points.

Food Safety & Hygiene Compliance

• Ensure proper handling, packaging, and storage of food items in line with food safety standards.
• Promote hygiene standards in warehouses and distribution sites.
• Ensure compliance with First Expiry First Out (FEFO) and First In First Out (FIFO) principles.
• Identify and report any food safety risks immediately.

Monitoring & Field Support

• Conduct field visits to monitor food quality during transportation and distribution.
• Support Field Monitors in verifying food quality at school level.
• Inspect storage facilities and recommend improvements when needed.

Coordination & Technical Support

• Work closely with Logistic Officer, Store Keepers, and Field Teams.
• Provide technical guidance on food handling and safety practices.
• Coordinate with WFP technical focal points on food quality standards.

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare regular food quality inspection reports.
• Document findings, risks, and corrective actions taken.
• Maintain records of food quality checks and compliance status.
• Report any non-compliance or food safety issues immediately to management.

Capacity Building

• Train project staff on food safety, hygiene, and quality standards.
• Conduct awareness sessions for warehouse and distribution teams.

Compliance & Safeguarding

• Ensure compliance with WFP food safety standards and SSEOA policies.
• Promote accountability and transparency in food handling processes.
• Report any misconduct, misuse, or food safety violations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, Agriculture, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in food quality assurance, food safety, or related field.
  • Experience in humanitarian or NGO food distribution programs is highly preferred.
  • Experience with WFP or similar food assistance programs is a strong advantage.
  • Experience in remote field operations is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and quality standards.
  • Good understanding of nutritional requirements for school feeding programs
  • Strong analytical and inspection skills.
  • Good reporting and documentation abilities.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in challenging and remote environments.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
