Job Description
1. Background
ARM Consulting is a research and management consulting firm engaged in monitoring, evaluation, and data collection assignments across Afghanistan. It works with humanitarian and development partners to generate reliable field data that supports evidence-based decision-making.
To support this effort, ARM Consulting seeks to recruit Field Enumerators from all 34 provinces to collect high-quality data in accordance with established survey protocols and ethical standards.
2. Purpose of the Assignment
Enumerators will administer structured questionnaires designed to measure key food security indicators, including but not limited to:
- Food Consumption Score (FCS)
- Household Dietary Diversity Score (HDDS)
- Livelihood Coping Strategies Index (LCSI)
- Other related food security and vulnerability indicators
3. Key Responsibilities
Field Enumerators will perform the following tasks:
- Conduct structured interviews with selected households using digital data-collection tools (such as Kobo Toolbox or similar platforms).
- Administer questionnaires designed to capture food security and dietary indicators, including FCS, HDDS, and LCSI.
- Collect information on household food consumption patterns, dietary diversity, and coping mechanisms used during food shortages.
- Ensure that all questions are asked clearly and consistently in accordance with survey training and protocols.
- Identify and locate the selected households or respondents using the provided sampling framework.
- Clearly explain the purpose of the survey to respondents and obtain informed consent prior to conducting interviews.
- Maintain respectful and culturally appropriate communication with all respondents.
- Ensure that all collected data is accurate, complete, and submitted within the required timeframe.
- Review completed questionnaires before submission to minimize errors or missing information.
- Follow instructions for proper recording of food consumption recall periods and dietary indicators, which are critical to data accuracy.
- Report any inconsistencies, errors, or challenges encountered during fieldwork to supervisors.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of respondent information.
- Ensure participation is voluntary and that respondents are free to decline to answer any question.
- Follow humanitarian principles and protection standards during interactions with communities.
- Coordinate with provincial supervisors and ARM Consulting project staff regarding daily field activities.
- Participate in enumerator training sessions prior to field deployment.
- Provide daily updates on survey progress and challenges encountered during data collection.
Job Requirements
Please ONLY apply if you meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture | Knowledge of Economics | Bachelor’s in Business Administration (BBA) | Relevant experience in agricultural management or business.
- Three years of experience in the development sector of Afghanistan with a particular focus on data collection and M&E;
- Fluency in spoken and written English;
- Ability to use Kobo Toolbox, Open Data Kit (ODK), Survey CTO, and other similar data collection tools;
- Must be residing in provinces where the duty station will be based;
- Ability to write high-quality monitoring reports;
