Razi Social Development Organization- RSDO is an Afghan NGO founded in April 11, 2008 and registered with Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan. It was established in Herat city but then sat up sub-offices in Ghor, Badghis and Farah provinces by delivering the social development services to vulnerable and marginalized people in the remote communities.

  • RSDO’s Background

RSDO firstly initiated the primary activities in 2002 under the name of “Abu Hanifeh Orphan High School”, assisting orphan children who lost their parents and families during the long-lasting war in Afghanistan to learn and build their future. Later on, with the financial support of Japan Embassy it has constructed a high school building for the orphan and expanded the activities of orphan with the support of HELP Germany as well. Throughout years of hard working, RSDO slowly developed and now has functioning offices in all west zone provinces of Afghanistan with more than 200 staff.

RSDO’s mandate is delivering the humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable households in the west zone provinces of Afghanistan through the financial support of UN and International Organizations.

Job Description

The Psychosocial Counselor is responsible for providing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to individuals and communities affected by trauma, displacement, violence, or other psychosocial stressors. The role involves conducting individual and group counseling sessions, identifying at-risk individuals, providing referrals, and raising awareness on mental well-being. The counselor plays a key role in improving the emotional resilience, recovery, and well-being of beneficiaries.

 Duties and Responsibilities for the Position:

  • Provide confidential, client-centered individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Assess clients' mental health and psychosocial needs and develop appropriate support plans.
  • Refer cases requiring specialized care to external health or psychological services.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on stress management, coping strategies, trauma recovery, and emotional well-being.
  • Support survivors of gender-based violence, conflict trauma, displacement, or abuse with appropriate psychosocial interventions.
  • Maintain accurate case records, session notes, and progress reports in accordance with confidentiality standards.
  • Participate in case management meetings with other staff (e.g., protection, health, legal) for holistic support.
  • Train and support community volunteers or social workers on basic psychosocial support principles.
  • Ensure culturally sensitive, age-appropriate, and gender-responsive counseling methods.
  • Contribute to periodic project reports and monitoring activities.

Job Requirements

1: Bachelor's degree in psychology.

2: At least 3-5 years of experience in psychosocial area.

3: Having knowledge of languages (Dari, Pashto and English)

4: Familiar with computer programs (MS-Windows)

5: Strong in Plan and report writing.

6: Observing organizational rules.
