About Mahboba's Promise Afghanistan:

Mahboba’s Promise is an Australian non-profit organisation committed to supporting vulnerable women and children in Afghanistan. It was founded in 2001 by Mahboba Rawi, an Afghan refugee who later became an Australian citizen. Having personally endured the hardships of war and displacement, she established the organisation to bring hope and practical support to those affected by decades of conflict and instability.

Over the years, Mahboba’s Promise has developed schools, shelters, and health clinics across Afghanistan, while also providing sponsorship programs for widows and orphans. Its initiatives focus on delivering education and safe housing for children, vocational training and employment pathways for women, and improved access to healthcare and community support services.

More than two decades on, Mahboba’s Promise continues to be recognised as a trusted and impactful organisation, creating meaningful and sustainable change for communities across Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

This role provides beneficiaries with a dual benefit: a practical vocational skill for income generation and foundational literacy. The trainer will create a supportive classroom environment where women can learn and grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vocational Skills Training:
  • Deliver practical, hands-on tailoring and sewing training to women and girls at the center.
  • Instruct beneficiaries on the safe and proper use of tailoring machines (utilizing MPA stock) and related tools.
  • Teach a range of skills from basic stitching to garment construction, enabling participants to create marketable products.
  • Literacy Class Instruction:
  • Integrate basic literacy and numeracy lessons into the training schedule, helping women and girls develop foundational reading, writing, and math skills relevant to daily life and small business management.
  • Use tailoring activities (e.g., reading patterns, measuring fabric, calculating costs) as practical opportunities for literacy and numeracy practice.
  • Curriculum Development:
  • Develop a structured, combined curriculum that balances practical tailoring instruction with basic literacy education over the 6-month project period.
  • Material Management:
  • Manage and maintain all tailoring equipment and materials, ensuring they are used efficiently and kept in good condition.
  • Request necessary supplies (fabric, thread, needles) from the Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Beneficiary Support & Assessment:
  • Create a positive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment for all participants.
  • Monitor and assess the progress of each beneficiary in both tailoring and literacy, providing individual support where needed.
  • Linkages for Expansion:
  • As the project aims to link with major donors and UN agencies for expansion, the Trainer should maintain detailed records of trainee progress and outcomes, which will be crucial for future funding proposals.
