Job Descriptions:

Background

BDN implements nutrition programs to improve health outcomes, including the Community-Based Nutrition Program (CBNP) and the School-based Weekly Iron Folic Acid Supplementation (S-WIFS) Program. The S-WIFS/CBNI project manager oversees planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, project activities, and oversees project capacity building activity; furthermore, strengthening coordination with UNICEF, PPHDs, provincial Education directorates, and local health and education authorities.

Purpose of the Position

The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the CBNI and S-WIFS projects, ensuring that activities are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with UNICEF, MoPH, MoE, and BDN policies, guidelines, and safeguarding standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead overall project implementation across all target provinces.
  • Develop and regularly update project work plans, timelines, and implementation strategies.
  • Coordinate closely with UNICEF, PPHD, Provincial nutrition officers, Department of Education, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance to provincial teams, including project supervisors/Master Trainers.
  • Support the organization and delivery of Training of Trainers (ToT) and school-level trainings.
  • Ensure Master Trainers and teachers understand S-WIFS technical guidelines and protocols.
  • Ensure implementation follows updated MoPH and MoE Micro nutrient guidelines and MN TWG guidance.
  • Oversee school mapping, selection of S-WIFS focal teachers, and weekly IFA distribution.
  • Ensure nutrition education and community awareness activities address anaemia, balanced diets, and harmful social norms.
  • Compiles analyses and interprets CBNP data received from the community.
  • Coordinate with UNICEF health and nutrition extender and the provincial level to ensure timely distribution and proper storage of MNP sachets, IFA tablets, and materials.
  • Ensure schools receive all required tools (IFA, IEC materials, reporting formats, water jugs, cups, storage boxes).
  • Ensure the proper implementation of MNP and CWIFS campaigns.
  • Ensure effective monitoring systems are in place and used consistently.
  • Oversee regular monitoring visits by Master Trainers and review monitoring checklists.
  • Monitoring from the MNP and CWIFS campaigns.
  • Compile and submit accurate monthly and quarterly progress reports to the BDN main office.
  • Track project indicators, challenges, lessons learned, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure full compliance with BDN Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding, PSEA/SH, and AAP policies.
  • Ensure all staff and contractors are oriented on safeguarding and reporting mechanisms.
  • Confirm that safe, accessible, and confidential feedback and complaint mechanisms are in place for beneficiaries.
  • Ensure any safeguarding or SEA/SH concerns are immediately reported to the BDN main office.
  • Address operational challenges promptly in coordination with provincial management team stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Medical doctor, bachelor’s degree in public health, Nutrition, and master’s degree is an advantage

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing health, nutrition, or school-based programs
  • Experience in anemia prevention, adolescent nutrition, or micronutrient programs is highly desirable
  • Strong experience in project management, reporting, and team supervision

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and coordination skills
  • Excellent planning, monitoring, and reporting abilities
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding, PSEA/SH, and accountability mechanisms
  • Ability to travel frequently to project provinces
  • Good in English and fluent in local languages (Dari and/or Pashto)
