National Industrial Development for Afghanistan (NIDA) is a youth-led, non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 1992. With over 30 years of experience, NIDA has been at the forefront of empowering Afghan communities through education, livelihoods, agriculture, health, and human rights initiatives. NIDA has reached more than 350,000 people across Afghanistan. Its mission is to enhance socio-economic resilience by equipping youth and vulnerable groups especially women with skills, education, and resources, while promoting child protection and human rights.
NIDA has partnered with UN agencies, INGOs, and national stakeholders to implement community-driven projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work (SDG 8), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10). Its work has included building schools and irrigation systems, advancing sustainable agriculture, promoting women’s economic empowerment, and strengthening governance and social accountability.
Purpose of the Role
The English Language Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality English language lessons to learners in the program. The role ensures that teaching methods are participatory, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of diverse learners, including girls, youth, and marginalized groups.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Classroom Management
Prepare and deliver structured English lessons according to the approved curriculum.
Develop lesson plans, teaching aids, and supplementary materials to enhance learning.
Use learner-centered methodologies and encourage participation, interaction, and practice.
Maintain classroom discipline in a respectful and supportive manner.
Student Assessment & Progress Tracking
Conduct regular assessments to evaluate student progress in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Provide feedback to learners and adapt teaching methods to meet individual needs.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance, and learning outcomes.
Support to Learners
Create a positive, inclusive, and gender-sensitive learning environment.
Encourage participation of girls and vulnerable learners to ensure equitable access.
Provide additional support to students who are struggling to keep up with lessons.
Professional Development & Collaboration
Participate in teacher training, workshops, and refresher courses organized by the program.
Collaborate with other teachers and facilitators to share best practices and improve teaching quality.
Engage with parents, community members, and school committees when needed to promote student learning.
Safeguarding & Compliance
Ensure child protection, safeguarding, and PSEA standards are upheld at all times.
Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents to supervisors immediately.
Comply with organizational policies, codes of conduct, and teaching standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field (diploma with strong experience may be considered).
At least 2–3 years of teaching experience, preferably in English language programs.
Strong command of English (spoken and written), with ability to teach at different proficiency levels.
Experience in participatory teaching methods and learner-centered approaches.
Familiarity with working in multicultural and inclusive classroom settings.
Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto for classroom support preferred.
