About Future Generations Afghanistan:

Future Generations (FG) is the collective name for an international network of non-governmental organizations including FG Country Programs in Asia and Africa, Future Generations University (FGU) and its alumni in 17 countries, academia, and individual’s experts. The original charitable organization, Future Generations, was established in 1992 for the purpose of learning from, and building upon the world’s most successful examples of community empowerment and social change. It is complemented by the Future Generations Graduate School (Future Generations University) in 2006 in the State of West Virginia with authorization to provide a Master's Degree in Applied Community Change focus on Conservation and Peace building.  The Future Generations Afghanistan (FGA) established in May 2002 and obtained its registration certificate from Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan in October 2005.  Since 2007, FGA has been operational in Eastern Afghanistan, and successfully completed development and humanitarian programs in Nangarhar, Laghman , Kunar, Nuristan, Logar, Wardak, Nimruz, Herat, Kanadahar, Badghis, Bamyan & Panjshir Provinces

Job Descriptions:

Enhance community resilience through the establishment of effective flood early warning systems, revitalization of hydro-meteorological monitoring, and implementation of integrated catchment management practices. Support the mainstreaming and implementation of early warning and anticipatory action at the regional level, implementing DRR components of the project as well as will be responsible for providing technical inputs to local facilitators, volunteers, and communities in their target communities.

Job Requirements:

  • Revitalize and installation of hydro-meteorological systems to improve data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Oversee the procurement and installation of weather monitoring equipment which aims to enhance the accuracy of weather forecasting and improve data collection for climate-related research.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for staff on the operation and maintenance of the new equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise for developing and executing innovative approaches in DRR and related areas.
  • Develop and design new initiatives in the above area of work
  • Ensure implementation of the initiatives in close collaboration with the team
  • Plan, implement and manage DRR projects in a phased and prioritized manner with full consultation and co-ordination with project staff
  • Identify and design the requirements for an effective and optimized monitoring system for hydro-meteorological hazard risk management.
  • Provide technical advice on communication of weather and climate information.
  • Conduct research and develop tools for climate change risk and vulnerability assessment use and water resources sectors
  • Support enhanced use of weather and climate data, weather forecasts, and climate predictions for early warning services, trigger mechanisms, and anticipatory action protocols;
  • Proactively support in mitigating impacts of natural hazards and in event of a disaster
  • Assisting in building the capacity of committee members through training and guidance.
  • Develop capacities of staff in the area of DRR and related areas
  • For implementation of new initiatives within DRR, maintain a good working relationship with the local authorities, communities and other key stakeholders to ensure optimal project success, quality and security
  • Support capacity building for the production, dissemination and use of weather forecasts, climate advisories, early warnings, and climate change
  • Provide regular reports on installation progress, challenges faced, and recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in using meteorological software and data analysis tools.
  • Strong leadership, team management and staff development skill.
  • Perfect knowledge of both spoken and written English is required.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
  • High Computer Proficiency (Microsoft Office, excel, PowerPoint etc)
