Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose:

The trainer is responsible for delivering culturally appropriate, practical, nutrition education sessions and for identification and referral of malnutrition cases (in collaboration with local actors). The role aligns with Mother and Young Child Module (MYCM) standards, focusing on improving maternal and child feeding practices, promoting hygiene and food use, and mobilizing community awareness of nutrition outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Community Training and Nutrition Education:

  • Deliver interactive nutrition education sessions for women, youth, and caregivers using the MYCM Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and maternal nutrition messages.
  • Utilise standard training tools (e.g., visual flipcharts, picture cards) adapted for the local context
  • Emphasize key practices: early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, maternal nutrition, handwashing, and use of safe water.
  • Facilitate discussions on child feeding practices, breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, hygiene, and safe food preparation.
  • Facilitate community dialogue and practical demonstrations, including cooking sessions and food hygiene techniques.
  • Encourage parents to implement vegetable gardens to improve diets.

Community Engagement and Mobilization:

  • Collaborate with village leaders, CHWs, women group, and health volunteers to mobilize participation.
  • Build trust through respectful, gender-sensitive communication, ensuring inclusive attendance (women, caregivers, adolescents).
  • Where culturally acceptable, engage male household members to support improved family nutrition practices.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of sessions, participants, MUAC screening results, referrals, and key learnings.
  • Submit regular reports to the Program Manager using agreed formats (MYCM-aligned).
  • Share success stories, community feedback, and areas for improvement to contribute to MEAL activities and learning cycles.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Midwifery, Nursing, or related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in community-based nutrition or health education, preferably in rural or low-resource contexts.
  • Familiarity with MYCM guidelines, including IYCF, MUAC screening, and referral pathways.
  • Experience with adult education methods in low-literacy communities.
  • Respectful of cultural norms, with excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Package and emailing.
  • Fluent in Dari (spoken and written); local dialects also highly preferred.

  • Based in Nili, Daikundi, with frequent travel to surrounding villages.
  • Involves extended periods in mountainous terrain and low-infrastructure environments.
