Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

AFGA is seeking to hire a qualified person for the position of MHT project coordinator, under the direct supervision of the program manager, the MHT project coordinator will be responsible for the overall management of the MHT project in 5 provinces along with humanitarian activities coordination in AFGA-covered provinces.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Project management:

  • Supervising overall program humanitarian assistance activities including the provision of medical supplies to the affected population, services provision by mobile health teams, and improvement of partner agencies' capacity for humanitarian assistance provision.
  • Regular follow-up of the project's ongoing activities to ensure the quality and progress of the project activities are in line with the approved plan.
  • Development of humanitarian activities weekly, monthly, and quarterly plans as per the program-approved work plan.
  • Close oversee the project activities progress by using standard tools for the activities progress monitoring.
  • Preparation of project progress reports as per AFGA internal procedures and project donor requirements.
  • Conducting project ongoing activities, particularly MHT services supervision to ensure the quality of services is improved.
  • Providing technical support on project technical work plan, reporting, supervision, and data analysis to the program manager to ensure the quality of services is as per standard.
  • Providing support in the development of program-related technical documents (SOPs, policies, etc.)
  • Considering the budget availability, the MHT project coordinator will provide support in preparing concept notes for new activities to be integrated into the current project.

2. Coordination:

  • The MHT project coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination of MHT and humanitarian activities on the central and provincial levels with stakeholders.
  • Coordination of UNFPA program activities to improve implementing partners' capacity for quality services provision including but not limited to, improvement of medical storage space capacity and quality, processing the ambulance vehicles shifting and prepositioning of UNFPA mobile maternity clinics van on provincial and regional levels.
  • Attending all the meetings with project stakeholders including project donor/s, the Ministry of Public Health, and community people.
  • Attending program-related internal meetings on central, regional, and provincial levels.

3. Financial management:

  • Providing support in the project budget plan development internally and with project donors.
  • Checking project-related financial requests and ensuring that the requests are as per the approved budget plan.
  • Tracking project budget utilization and notifying program and finance manager on under and overspent issues.
  • Providing support on project budget plan revision as per real utilization of the budget.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduated from a well-known medical university with completion of MoPH exit exam (if applicable).
  • Holding a master of public health degree is a plus point.
  • Having at least five years of proven experience with national and international NGOs in the field of health response to humanitarian settings or MHT project implementation.
  • Good knowledge and skills in project management.
  • Fluent Pashto and Dari speaker and good in English speaking.
  • Ability to prepare project-related documents in English.
  • Having previous experience with MHT projects focusing on RMNCAH services.
  • Skill and ability of HMIS formats registration and report extraction.
  • Good communication skills in the area of health services provision.
  • Ability to use KOBO and other online/ offline applications for data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to conduct field visits to the project implementation sites.
  • Good knowledge of community engagement in health services projects.
