Job Descriptions:

Overview:

As a Dentist for our Women's Health Center located within the female prison facility, you will provide comprehensive dental care and treatment to incarcerated women in need of dental services. Your expertise in dentistry and commitment to patient-centered care will contribute to promoting oral health and well-being among inmates within the correctional setting.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Dental Examinations and Assessment:
  • Perform routine dental examinations and assessments for incarcerated women, including oral health screenings, dental evaluations, and assessment of dental needs and concerns.
  • Diagnose dental conditions, diseases, and abnormalities, such as cavities, gum disease, and oral infections, using clinical examination findings and diagnostic tools.
  1. Preventive Care and Education:
  • Provide preventive dental care and education to incarcerated women, including oral hygiene instruction, dietary counseling, and recommendations for oral health maintenance.
  • Offer dental sealants, fluoride treatments, and other preventive interventions to reduce the risk of dental caries and promote oral health.
  1. Restorative and Surgical Procedures:
  • Perform restorative dental procedures, such as fillings, crowns, and root canal treatments, to restore damaged or decayed teeth and preserve oral function.
  • Conduct minor oral surgical procedures, such as tooth extractions and dental surgeries, as necessary to address oral health issues and alleviate pain or discomfort.
  1. Emergency Dental Care:
  • Respond to dental emergencies and urgent dental needs among incarcerated women, including treatment of dental trauma, acute dental pain, and dental infections.
  • Provide timely and appropriate interventions to manage dental emergencies and ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
  1. Collaborative and Referral:
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers, including medical doctors, nurses, and specialists, to coordinate comprehensive care and address the oral health needs of incarcerated women.

Job Requirements:

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school required.
  • Minimum of three years of clinical experience practicing dentistry, preferably with experience in providing dental care to diverse populations.
  • Strong clinical skills and proficiency in dental examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate care in a correctional healthcare setting.

Working Conditions:

  • This position will be based within the women's health center located within the prison facility.
