NCA Afghanistan is working in the thematic area of Climate Resilient WASH, Climate Smart Economic Empowerment, Humanitarian Response, Learning and Social Development and Civil Society capacity building. 

NCA seeks a competent and highly motivated Psychosocial Support Counsellor to join the REACH project team. This post will be led by the Climate and Resilience Adviser and line managed by the PSS and Para-Legal Services Coordinator. This post will require close collaboration with the PSS Officer based in Kabul.

Job Descriptions:

The post holder will provide professional counselling services to individuals (female, male and children) and groups to promote optimum mental health, with an emphasis on empowering clients to recover from the trauma caused by earthquake disaster and enable them to handle life's challenges effectively. 

Main tasks and responsibilities for this position:

An experienced Psychosocial counsellor is responsible for:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify client needs and appropriate service requirements.
  • Provide individual, family, and group counselling sessions to address a range of psychosocial issues.  
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and other healthcare professionals. 
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records, documenting therapy sessions and progress.
  • Offer crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Set up a monitoring system to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of psychological support activities.
  • Facilitate workshops and support groups on mental health, stress management, and related topics.
  • Refer clients to other agencies or specialists, including GBV survivors
  • Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in psychosocial counselling.
  • Engage community leaders, local actors, and service providers to encourage and support beneficiaries' use of PSS services. 
  • Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports. 
  • Take up tasks assigned by NCA management to support organizational goals and needs.

Job Requirements:

 

  • A Bachelor's degree in psychology or related fields.
  • Having valid certificates from the Ministry of Health as a professional psychosocial counsellor is an asset. Having a Master's degree is desirable.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related experience as a psychosocial support counselor preferably with international NGO's. 
  • Experience working through partners and UN agencies is preferred
  • Competent mental health professional expert in the field of psychosocial counselling.
  • Competent in psychosocial counselling and human rights and protection issues. 
  • Ability to travel to project areas 
  • Communication skills and attention to detail
  • Can confidentiality keep information 
  • Passionate about the mental health and well-being of clients, including GBV survivors 
  • Passion for the understanding of humanitarian issues. 
  • Excellent and inspiring communicator 
  • Ability to work under stress and manage personal stress
  • Competent in coaching and training skills.
  • Excellent skills and techniques in interviewing diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to support group sessions.
  • Excellent report-writing skills in English
  • Excellent computer skills  
  • Can effectively communicate in English and the local language
