Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, INTERSOS strategy, values and universal hygiene standards in order to improve the patients/beneficiaries health conditions.
To contribute to the reduction of morbidity and mortality associated with malnutrition, diseases and hazards resulting from inadequate (or non-existent) health and nutrition services, environmental health conditions and protective environment in conflict-affected communities.
2. Tasks and responsibilities
Clinical care
• Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out inpatient and outpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting protocols
• Clinical examination of all patients with signs of complicated pathologies or presenting complication or referrals from the nurse.
• Prescribe routine and basic treatments according to the protocol used in respecting the drug dosage based on the weight of the patient.
• Follow-up of the severe and complicated cases.
• Adapt and change of medical treatment as required.
• Keep the patient and/or his family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking has been understood
• Complete and properly fill the individual card with the medical information.
• Ensure professional confidentiality is respected among all the member of his team
Nutrition and referral
• Screen children and PLWs for SAM&MAM and refer complicated cases to HFs.
• Refer complicated cases of SAM and children’s illnesses to referral hospital.
• Provide therapeutic treatment for beneficiaries in the third level of catchment areas around HFs as determined by the health program team.
• Follow up program defaulters and provides treatment or refer to HFs.
Team leadership and supervision
• Act as team leader of the medical team under his direct responsibility according to INTERSOS policies and procedures. Organize and schedule shift and rotations, supervise the team performance and the quality of the medical project activities and inform the line manager about any relevant problem within the team under his supervision
• Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care
• Transmit clear instruction to the nurse on medical care and specific monitoring of the patient.
• Work in collaboration with the nurses and midwifes to ensure quality medical care provision.
• Work as a member of the team, taking in consideration the non-medical problems encountered by the patients (feeding and caring problems).
• Work in collaboration with the mobile team members to achieve INTERSOS and MoH goal.
Data, reporting and monitoring
• Participate in the collection, transmission and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its quality and informing the line manager about any problem or complication of the patients illness, medical error
• Collect the number of new admissions and exits and attendances based on the register.
• Compile weekly and monthly reports and share with line manager timely.
• Assist the program team on gathering monthly reporting data from supported HFs.
• Participate in the mobilization campaigns and collect the report form the CHWs.
Supply, equipment and coordination
• Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical materials. Ensure general compliance with standing hygiene standards. Is in charge of weekly/monthly consumption analysis and medical orders
• Monitor the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material
• Raise regularly supply request to line manager and ensure securing of mobile team supplies including therapeutic food and drugs.
• Collaborate with program, logistic and HR department if requested
• Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
