Ansari Rehabilitation Association for Afghanistan (ARAA) is a national, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, established in 1992 for serving the people of Afghanistan through its operation in sectors of Protection,  water and sanitation, education, reintegration, emergency response, and social services, as well it has been established to provide humanitarian supports, based on the principles of human rights, Islamic and cultural values of our country, and environmental and socio-economic sustainability to the vulnerable people of Afghanistan.

In continuation of its 2026 program operational plan, ARAA is seeking a qualified person to apply for this position.

Job Description

  • Lead community outreach and engagement activities to introduce the Women Community Center (WCC), explain available services, and encourage women and girls to safely access appropriate support.
  • Facilitate community discussions, awareness sessions, focus group discussions, and dialogue meetings on women's protection, GBV prevention, available support services, and other protection concerns, in coordination with PSS counsellors and relevant team members.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with community elders, women representatives, community-based protection structures, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen community engagement and support for WCC activities.
  • Identify women and girls who may require protection or other specialized assistance and support their safe and confidential referral to appropriate services within the WCC or to external service providers.
  • Assist PSS counsellors and other protection staff during the delivery of psychological first aid (PFA), awareness activities, and other services, while ensuring that beneficiaries are treated with dignity, respect, and confidentiality.
  • Support the Protection Coordinator in collecting activity information, documenting achievements and challenges, and preparing timely updates and reports on community-based activities and services.
  • Assist with the safe and orderly distribution of hygiene kits and other assistance to identified girls and women at risk, in line with agreed targeting and distribution procedures.
  • Ensure that required forms, registers, referral documents, consent records, and other service-related documentation are completed accurately and maintained appropriately.
  • Coordinate closely with PSS counsellors, social organizers, protection staff, and other WCC personnel to ensure that services are delivered in a timely, integrated, and beneficiary-centered manner.
  • Maintain regular communication with community-based protection mechanisms and relevant service providers and help strengthen referral pathways at community level.
  • Undertake field travel to communities and conduct meetings, consultations, and outreach sessions to identify protection concerns and promote access to GBV and women's protection services.
  • Participate in regular coordination meetings with the Protection Coordinator and WCC team to review implementation progress, discuss operational challenges, identify emerging protection concerns, and recommend practical actions.
  • Contribute to awareness and capacity-building activities for community members, local leaders, and other community representatives on women's protection, GBV, PSEA, safeguarding, and safe referral practices.
  • Ensure that all interactions with beneficiaries and community members follow the organization's Code of Conduct, safeguarding requirements, confidentiality principles, and data protection procedures.
  • Immediately report any protection, safeguarding, PSEA, or other serious concerns through the established organizational reporting and referral channels.
  • Perform other protection and community engagement duties assigned by the supervisor that are consistent with the position and project objectives.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Law, Community Development, or another relevant discipline. Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered where appropriate.
  • At least two years of practical experience in community mobilization, social work, protection, or related humanitarian programming. Previous experience in women's protection or GBV programming is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience with national or international humanitarian organizations in Afghanistan will be an advantage.
  • Good understanding of protection principles and the protection risks faced by women, girls, IDPs, and other vulnerable groups in the local context.
  • Familiarity with protection mainstreaming, GBV, child protection, women's protection, PSEA, safeguarding, confidentiality, and the organization's Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully with communities and communicate effectively with women, girls, community leaders, and service providers.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to assess community concerns, identify protection-related issues, and communicate relevant findings clearly to the supervisor and protection team.
  • Good written communication skills in English are desirable. Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is required according to the assigned location, while knowledge of both languages is an advantage.
  • Basic computer literacy, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to maintain accurate electronic and written records.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize field activities, and meet reporting deadlines.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to field locations and work directly with communities in challenging operational environments.
