English–Dari Translator

Hamyar Organization for Child is a nationally registered non-governmental organization (NGO) in Afghanistan, licensed by the Ministry of Economy. The organization designs and implements humanitarian and development programs based on the actual needs of local communities with the active participation of volunteers.
The organization operates in Balkh and Kabul provinces, focusing on child protection, education, primary healthcare, livelihood support, and community development.

Summary

The English–Dari Translator is responsible for providing accurate, clear, and culturally appropriate translation and language support for the organization's internal and external communications. The translator ensures that reports, official documents, website content, social media materials, and other communication products are translated with high quality while maintaining the original meaning, tone, and technical terminology.

The position works closely with program, communication, MEAL, and management teams to ensure timely delivery of translated materials in accordance with organizational standards and donor requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Translate reports, proposals, assessments, and other official documents between English and Dari while preserving accuracy and context.

·         Translate website content, news articles, success stories, brochures, and organizational publications.

·         Translate content for social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Instagram, and other digital channels.

·         Proofread and edit translated documents to ensure grammatical accuracy, consistency, and readability.

·         Review English and Dari documents for language quality and terminology consistency.

·         Maintain confidentiality of organizational documents and sensitive information during the translation process.

·         Coordinate with program and communication teams to clarify technical terminology and contextual meanings whenever necessary.

·         Develop and maintain a glossary of commonly used organizational and humanitarian terms.

·         Support interpretation during meetings, workshops, training sessions, and official events whenever required.

·         Ensure all translated materials comply with organizational branding, communication standards, and donor requirements.

·         Perform any other language-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor's Degree in English Literature, Journalism, or another relevant field.

·         Candidates with a High School Diploma and extensive relevant professional experience may also be considered.

Experience

·         Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in written translation (English–Dari and Dari–English).

·         Previous experience with NGOs, UN agencies, or international organizations is highly desirable.

·         Demonstrated experience translating reports, proposals, policies, communication materials, and official correspondence.

·         Experience in proofreading and editing translated documents.

Skills and Competencies

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Dari.

·         Strong knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and writing styles in both languages.

·         Ability to accurately translate technical, humanitarian, and development-related terminology.

·         Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality translations.

·         Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.

·         Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.

·         High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Computer Skills

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

·         Familiarity with Google Workspace.

·         Experience using online translation and terminology management tools is an advantage.

Languages

·         Fluency in English and Dari (written and spoken) is required.

·         Knowledge of Pashto is considered an advantage.
