Gender/PSEA Focal Point (Subject to Donor's Approval)

Shelter for Life International (SFL) is a non-governmental, non-political, non-profit and international faith-based organization. It has been working in Afghanistan since 1998 and is presently managing long-term and short-term humanitarian and development programs to the people in need in countries around the world. SFL is currently operational in Afghanistan, Liberia, South Sudan, Senegal and Tajikistan. Our Headquarters is located in Minnetonka, MN and funded by multiple donors such as BPRM, USG, USDA, WFP and FAO. SFL has rich experience and provides assistance in the following areas; Agriculture Development, Food Security, livelihood and emergency, Shelter and Population Settlement, Application of Microcredit, Infrastructure Development and Health and Nutrition.

This Gender focal point is responsible for overall management of gender related tasks, conducting weekly and monthly gender meetings with female staffs, conducting Gender based – violence (GBV), AAP and other related trainings to female/male staffs including female beneficiaries, if needed, preparing weekly and monthly gender reports, attending in all WFP's virtual or in person gender meetings accordingly. Despite of that, the gender Focal Point must actively promote protection from gender based – violence (GBV), Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) and other protection sections will be responsible for reporting all concerns and complaints to the SFL’s designated management team and must complete a GBV incident reporting form and send this as well within 24 hours of concern being raised, where possible. Simultaneously, the below are the specific tasks to be done by GBV focal point in close coordination with project manager as well as program unit.

SFL maintains a zero-tolerance policy on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) and is committed to upholding the highest standards of accountability and safeguarding.

• Having good behavior with community people especially with beneficiaries.
• Work under direct supervision of project manager and program unit.
• Dealing with all hotline/complaints and feedback from the fields.
• Dealing with PSEA, GBV and AAP with the beneficiaries.
• Having good behavior with communities, especially involved beneficiaries.
• Conduct training on PSEA, GBC, AAP and other relevant training to project staff.
• Represent SFL for gender related issues with WFP and other stakeholders
• Supporting gender mainstreaming by advocating, advising, coordinating all efforts/actions and supporting professional staff, monitoring and reporting on progress.
• Giving technical support for the inclusion of gender issues in programs/project.
• Providing technical and advisory support to other units.
•  Provide weekly/monthly narrative reports to project manager and the senior management team.
• Perform other duties as assigned by program leadership (Project Manager/Deputy Country Director).

Qualification/Requirements:

·         Minimum 3 Years of relevant work experience with International NGOs or UN Agencies

·         Computer skills at the operator level, especially with MS Office packages.

·         Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto; proficiency in English is required.

·         Having strong report writing skills.    

·         Good communication skill and able to pass the massage/questions in local languages to the respondents.

·         Have good interpersonal skills and ability to plan work.

·         Supervisory, team worker, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

·         Regional and cultural knowledge of areas of SFL field operations in Afghanistan

·         Willingness to work long hours when required

·         Ability and willingness to travel to the project sites and outside of duty station within Afghanistan and adjust to the SFL environment as frequently as required

·         Honest, proactive, well mannered, and must share values of SFL.

·         Willing to stay in field locations

·         Ready to work, live and travel in an intricate and strenuous environment

·         To be an Afghan citizen.

•       Preference will be given to those candidates who are local residents and are familiar with the project implementation area and communities and who have sufficient experience in RFS project implementation.
