Job Description

Job Summary

The Female Nurse is responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and high-quality nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents admitted to the pediatric ward. She monitors patients' conditions, administers medications, assists physicians, educates caregivers, and ensures compliance with hospital policies and infection prevention and patient safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards.
  • Assess, monitor, and record patients' vital signs, symptoms, and progress.
  • Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, injections, blood products, and oxygen therapy safely.
  • Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and complications.
  • Assist in feeding, hygiene, mobility, and comfort of pediatric patients.
  • Recognize medical emergencies and respond promptly.

2. Clinical Procedures

  • Perform nursing procedures, including:
    • IV cannulation
    • Blood sample collection
    • Wound dressing
    • Catheter care
    • Nasogastric tube care
    • Nebulization
    • Suctioning
    • Immunization (where applicable)
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic and surgical procedures.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.

3. Monitoring & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate nursing records.
  • Record medication administration.
  • Document nursing assessments and interventions.
  • Report changes in patient condition immediately.
  • Complete shift handover reports.

4. Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)

  • Follow infection prevention protocols.
  • Practice proper hand hygiene.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately.
  • Ensure proper waste segregation.
  • Maintain a clean and safe patient environment.

5. Patient & Family Education

  • Educate parents/caregivers on:
    • Medication administration
    • Nutrition
    • Hygiene
    • Breastfeeding support
    • Immunization
    • Home care after discharge
    • Prevention of childhood illnesses

6. Emergency Response

  • Respond effectively to pediatric emergencies.
  • Assist in pediatric resuscitation (CPR).
  • Prepare emergency medications and equipment.
  • Participate in emergency drills.

7. Coordination

  • Work closely with pediatricians, pharmacists, laboratory staff, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds.
  • Ensure continuity of care during shift changes.

8. Equipment Management

  • Ensure proper use of medical equipment.
  • Check the functionality of monitors, oxygen equipment, suction machines, and infusion pumps.
  • Report equipment malfunctions promptly.

9. Quality Assurance

  • Follow hospital policies and nursing standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Report incidents and medication errors according to hospital procedures.

10. Other Duties

  • Participate in departmental meetings and training.
  • Mentor junior nurses and nursing students when assigned.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Valid Nursing License issued by the relevant national authority.
  • Registration with the national nursing council (where applicable).
  • Female candidate (as required by the position).
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in Pediatrics.
  • Experience in NGO or hospital settings is an asset.
