Job Description

Scope of Work: The TFU Medical Doctor will be responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and nutritional management of patients admitted to the TFU in accordance with national protocols and universal health standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Objective 1: Ensure the provision of high quality medical and nutritional care in the TFU

Admission of children:

·          Ensure implementation of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures and patient safety standards within the TFU according to national and WHO guidelines.

·         Understanding and applying the Severe Cases admission criteria

·         Carry out the daily rounds in the assigned ward – approximately 20-28 patients.

·         Clinical examination of patients daily in order to determine any change in their clinical status

·         Carry out any appropriate and available investigations that may adjust diagnosis

·         Prescribe medications and therapeutic foods according to patients’ diagnosis, age and weight, and be aware of possible drug interactions.

·         Ensure timely consultation and/or referral for complex medical cases which require higher medical support,

·         Re-evaluate critical patients regularly during the day and night

·         Carry out the admission visit, prioritize the emergency, take a comprehensive history, and clinical examination, medical and nutritional prescription

·         Ensure effective referral and counter-referral mechanisms between TFU, health facilities, MHNTs, and community-based nutrition services

·         Ensure integration of MHPSS considerations into clinical management of SAM cases.

Objective 2: Supervise the TFU

·         Ensure that the protocols are strictly followed and implemented;

·         Provide technical training to the team and new staff upon arrival regarding management of severe malnutrition with complication;

·         Ensure implementation of the activities linked to care practices;

·         Collect the orders for the TFU, check them prior to transmitting them to the Nutrition Officer;

·         Collect and cross check weekly statistics data and analyze

·         Computerize the data in the absence of the data entry clerk;

·         Draft weekly and monthly reports for the nutritional programme;

·         Participate in the definition of programme, follow up and évaluation.

·         Being responsible for the material used

·         Ensuring the follow up of medicine consumption during the inpatient phase.

·         In collaboration with the pharmacist, supporting management of consumable and medicines

Objective 3. Recording and Reporting activities Activities

·         Write notes clearly and neatly on health card or admission chart

·         Monitor and analyze key nutrition performance indicators including cure rate, death rate, defaulter rate, average length of stay, and bed occupancy rate.

·         Document clearly the admission and discharge diagnosis for each patient according to national statistical definitions to enable good analysis by the Severe Cases team

·         Write prescriptions clearly and neatly on health card or prescription chart

·         Properly fill TFU multi-chart and tally sheet at the end of each day

·         Ensure any investigations carried out are clearly marked on the health card or admission chart

·         Report any incident to the TFU PM, where medical care is felt to be below the accepted standards.

·         Participate in the weekly/ monthly data compilation and reporting of Severe Cases activities

·         Ensure proper forecasting, stock monitoring, storage, and rational use of F75, F100, RUTF, essential medicines, and medical supplies to prevent stock-outs and expiries.

Objective 4: Team management

·         Draw up work schedules for each position;

·         Update the personnel register;

·         Carry out regular assessment interviews with team members;

·         Organise training for the project team.

·         Organise monthly meetings with the team;

·         In the event of problems, identify the issue and seek solutions or refer up to management staff.

·         Handle any conflicts within the team.

·         Verify the manner in which the team interacts with beneficiaries and assistants;

·         Organize and participate in weekly meetings with the team.

·         Any other assignment given by senior management.

·         Ensure compliance with safeguarding, child protection, confidentiality, and Prevention of Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policies.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

Should hold a MD degree, paediatrician with the exit exam document. 

should have 2 years Expérience in nutrition, TFU, Paediatrics.
