Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. Alongside the Ministry of Public Health, AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive Health since its inception. AFGA is a fully accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and an important partner of UNFPA.
A committed team of more than 600 experts are working in 11 provinces of Afghanistan to achieve AFGA goals and objectives. AFGA provides health services to the most vulnerable and hard to reach communities through over 140 service delivery points.
Job Description
As the main aim of AFGA's humanitarian response, health facilities are improving RMNCAH services in hard-to-reach areas of the country. The midwife is the most important part of the health services. Under the overall supervision of the MHT doctor, the MHT midwife will be responsible for providing quality RMNCAH services in the MHT/ Fixed Center. She will be contributing to health services provision in the community-based health facility with a focus on reproductive health. As per the project donor and AFGA strategic plan, the MHT midwife will be contributing to health services access improvement through close engagement with the targeted community through health shura members, family health action group (FHAG), and CHWs
Specific Responsibilities:
- Admission of pregnant women to the MHT.
- Monitoring the health status of pregnant women during pregnancy and after birth, and family planning.
- Support pregnant women during their delivery.
- In the register book, submit reports about activities conducted.
- Improving the level of scientific and professional knowledge and talent.
- In consultation with the doctor.
- Performing additional tasks (related to health center services) as requested by the relevant manager.
- Sterilization of all equipment MHT.
- Cooperation with the doctor in serious cases, cooperation with doctors in urgent cases, and other cases if necessary.
- Injecting drugs according to standardized protocols.
- Measurements are carried out on pregnant and lactating mothers regularly to detect nutritional events.
- Providing instructions on healthy conventions and practices to patients.
- Regular and accurate monitoring of the treatment of patients will be the main responsibility.
- Active participation in the education and training of nurse midwives.
- Perform all other duties as requested by higher clinical authorities
- Managing the flow of incoming patients (prioritizing patients...).
- Inspection of cleaning equipment and accessories.
- Active participation in educational, technical training, and workshops
- Participating in various educational and technical training courses and workshops (providing suggestions and determining some topics)
- Implementation of materials, including protocols and resources, in progress
- Taking accurate and correct history of health and pregnancy status and correct physical examination (general examination, abdominal examination, vaginal examination if necessary).
- Provision of prenatal services based on accepted protocols.
- Providing nutritional services to pregnant and lactating mothers, acute and intermediate nutrition and follow-up care.
- Checking the tetanus vaccine card. Identifying pregnant patients at risk.
- Recommendations for treatment and prevention will be based on accepted protocols.
- Adherence to professional requirements is recommended.
- Set the date of the next meeting and explain the importance of the topic.
- Providing instruction on health care for a healthy woman (prenatal medicine, postnatal check-ups, nutrition, vaccinations, and pregnancy risks)
- (Where, how, what oath, with what accessories?)
- Fill the registry book, register, and health card.
- Get accurate birth information.
- Complete operational inspections to diagnose any problems.
- Menstruation consultation will be given by the MD if necessary.
- Family guidance advice (creating spacing between births).
- Ensure delivery date accuracy.
- The examination is accurate to discover if any anti-infection is present.
- Let the husband be asked.
- Regarding different ways to create spacing between births, consultation with the mother will be done.
- Be fully informed about the proposed method.
- The follow-up card and book will be removed from the register.
- The date of the next meeting was mentioned, and the importance of the topic was noted.
Job Requirements
- Graduated from a midwifery institute and completed the MoPH exam.
- At least two years of work experience in the related field.
- Technical skills to provide effective, safe family motherhood services.
- Fluency in spoken and written Dari and Pashtu is a requirement.
- Priority is given to the local candidates.
- Culturally flexible and respect a multi-cultural environment
- Excellent skills in problem-solving and decision-making making
