About Women's Activities & Social Services Association (WASSA)

Women Activities & Social Service Association (WASSA) was established in 2002 in Afghanistan as a non-governmental organization, committed to seeking ways for women's empowerment in Afghanistan. Job Description

1. Background

The WASSA Internship Program is designed to provide motivated graduates and university last years students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in humanitarian and development sectors. Interns will be exposed to real-world operations across WASSA’s key thematic areas including:

  • Economic Empowerment
  • Livelihood & Economic Development
  • Health & Nutrition
  • Child Protection & Education
  • Humanitarian Assistance & Emergency Response
  • Organizational Operations and Support Services

This program supports capacity building and career development by engaging interns in meaningful assignments within a professional environment.

2. Internship Objective

The objective of this internship program is to:

  • Build professional skills and competencies of young Afghan professionals
  • Provide hands-on experience in NGO operations and project implementation
  • Strengthen knowledge in humanitarian and development programming
  • Support WASSA departments with additional human resource capacity

3. Departments & Areas of Assignment

A. Programs / Projects Department

Interns may support:

  • Project implementation and coordination
  • Field data collection and reporting (including KOBO)
  • Monitoring & Evaluation (MEAL) support activities
  • Proposal development and documentation
  • Community engagement and outreach activities

B. Operations Department

Interns may support:

  • HR: Filing, recruitment support, staff documentation
  • Finance: Basic financial documentation, record keeping
  • Logistics & Procurement: Tracking supplies, documentation
  • ICT: Basic IT support and troubleshooting
  • Administration: General office support and coordination

4. Key Responsibilities

Depending on assignment, interns will:

  • Assist in data collection, entry, and database management
  • Support preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation
  • Participate in field visits and assessments (if required)
  • Provide administrative and operational support
  • Assist in use of digital tools (e.g., KOBO, MS Office)
  • Respond to internal information requests
  • Support technical teams in daily activities
  • Maintain proper filing systems (hard and soft copies)

Job Requirements

5. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be graduates or final-year university students
  • Have educational background relevant to applied department
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and willingness to learn
  • Have basic English (written & spoken) and fluency in local languages
  • Possess basic computer skills (MS Office required)
  • Have good academic and personal standing

Candidates with relevant practical experience but limited formal education may also apply.

6. Selection Process

Qualified applicants will go through:

  1. Document Screening
  2. Written Test (language, computer, basic knowledge)
  3. Interview
  4. Short Presentation (topic related to field)

Successful candidates will be notified prior to the internship start date.

7. Internship Conditions

  • Duration: Minimum 6 months (extendable up to 1 year)
  • Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (as per HR policy)
  • Internship Type: Voluntary (unpaid),
  • No coverage for:
    • Accommodation
    • Transportation
    • Health insurance

11. Contract Termination

Internship may be terminated due to:

  • Unauthorized absence
  • Misconduct or unprofessional behavior
  • Poor performance
  • Breach of confidentiality or fraud
