About Youth Assembly for Afghanistan Rehabilitation (YAAR):

The Youth’s Assembly for Afghanistan Rehabilitation (YAAR) is a national, non-governmental, and non-profit organization founded in 1994, register no. 157, to deliver humanitarian assistance and support Afghanistan’s long-term recovery. Over the last three decades, YAAR has grown into a capable and community-focused organization with experience working in more than 17 provinces  and implemented multisectoral projects in partnership with UN agencies, INGOs, embassies, and local institutions.

Job Descriptions:

  • To prepare daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea/snacks) for provincial office staff, visitors, and BPHS project teams according to approved menus and dietary requirements.
  • To assist in planning weekly/monthly menus considering nutritional balance, budget limits, seasonal availability, and staff preferences.
  • To ensure all food preparation, cooking, and serving follow strict hygiene and food safety standards (cleanliness, proper storage, temperature control, no cross-contamination).
  • To receive, inspect, verify, and store food items, groceries, and kitchen supplies properly to prevent spoilage or waste.
  • To maintain accurate records of daily food consumption, stock usage, and inventory of kitchen items.
  • To monitor kitchen equipment, utensils, and appliances; report any maintenance needs or damages to the supervisor.
  • To clean and organize the kitchen area, utensils, and storage spaces daily, ensuring pest control and overall hygiene.
  • To manage fuel (gas/wood/electricity) usage efficiently and report consumption regularly.
  • To assist in preparing food for BPHS field supervision teams, meetings, workshops, or training sessions when required.
  • To identify, solve, or refer to kitchen-related problems (shortages, quality issues, staff feedback) to the supervisor or admin team.
  • To participate in monthly meetings with admin/logistics focal points to discuss food requirements, costs, problems, and solutions.
  • To supervise and maintain cleanliness and safety in the kitchen area based on YAAR standards.
  • To analyze kitchen consumption data and assist in preparing monthly reports on food expenditure and usage.
  • To carry out any other duties and responsibilities assigned by your supervisor.
  • Perform any other required project-related tasks.

Job Requirements:

  1. At least 2–3 years of proven experience as a cook (experience in NGO/INGO offices, guesthouses, or health projects preferred).
  2. Basic literacy (able to read/write in Pashto/Dari) and knowledge of food preparation, hygiene, and nutrition.
  3. Good knowledge of kitchen safety, food storage, and basic hygiene practices.
  4. Efficiency, result-oriented, and good organizational capabilities; ability to work under pressure and in a team; attention to detail and cleanliness; cross-cultural and gender sensitivity; ability to work long hours when needed; respect the confidentiality of the organization.

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within YAAR and amongst beneficiaries served by YAAR.
