Rural Rehabilitation Association for Afghanistan (RRAA) is non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organization established in 1990. The Head Office of the organization is based in Kabul, Afghanistan and delivers services in the sectors of civil society, health, agriculture and livelihood through its four regional offices located in Kabul, Herat, Jalalabad and Mazar-e-Sharif.
RRAA is working in Afghanistan for improvements of Civil Society, Healthcare, Livelihood and Capacity Building. We are currently covering Herat, Badghis, Faryab, Balkh, Dai Kondi, Uruzgan, Sar-e-pol, Jawzjan, Kunduz, Nangarhar and Kunar provinces while planning to expand our activities in other provinces.

Job Descriptions:

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site assessments and soil analysis for ordinary and high-density gardening interventions in target communities.
  • Design and implement ordinary and high-density vegetable and fruit gardening models in line with agro-ecological conditions.
  • Provide technical guidance on crop selection, spacing, planting density, pruning, fertigation, and integrated pest management (IPM).
  • Establish and supervise demonstration plots for ordinary and high-density gardening systems.
  • Train beneficiaries on improved gardening practices, nursery management, composting, mulching, and water-efficient irrigation techniques.
  • Support distribution and proper use of gardening inputs, including seeds, seedlings, tools, fertilizers, and irrigation materials.
  • Monitor garden performance, yield levels, and plant health, and recommend corrective measures where needed.
  • Promote climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive gardening approaches to improve household food security and income.
  • Coordinate with community shuras, farmer groups, and local authorities to ensure participation, ownership, and sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS), safe pesticide use, and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate field records and prepare regular progress, technical, and lesson-learned reports.
  • Support integration of women and vulnerable groups in household and community gardening activities.
  • Perform other related tasks assigned by the Project Manager or line supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, or Horticulture (Master’s preferred).
  • 3-5years’ experience in ordinary and high-density gardening/orchard management.
  • Strong knowledge of high-density planting, pruning, irrigation, and IPM.
  • Experience in farmer training and field demonstrations.
  • Good reporting skills; fluent in Pashto/Dari (English an asset).
