About Gate of Hope Afghanistan Organization:

Gate of Hope Afghanistan Organization (GOH-A) is an Afghan non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2022 and registered with the Government of Afghanistan under the supervision of Ministry of Economy (MoEc) with a mission to provide humanitarian and development assistance to the vulnerable, at-risk, and underserved people throughout the country.

GOH-A responds to the needs of deprived and marginalized rural and urban communities by managing and utilizing the available scarce resources in a well-organized, efficient, effective, transparent, and dignified manner to enhance resilience, boost access to education, health services, and infrastructure, ensure food and livelihood security, and promote social protection and inclusion.

GOH-A has an active presence in most parts of the country and intends to expand its operations to the remaining provinces, as to transform itself into a leading and developed organization that will deliver to and support large number of people who have been affected by the long-protracted and sudden on-set emergencies and regardless of the hardest circumstances that exist in Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

GOH-A will be implementing an emergency response project under the name of Safe Haven Initiative (SHI), aimed at improving the mental health, psychosocial wellbeing, and protection of women and vulnerable community members. As part of this initiative, the organization seeks a qualified MHPSS Counselor to deliver community-based psychosocial services in line with humanitarian and ethical standards.

Job Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group psychosocial support sessions to project beneficiaries
  • Conduct basic psychosocial assessments and identify protection or mental health needs
  • Deliver Psychological First Aid (PFA) and community-based MHPSS activities
  • Facilitate awareness sessions on mental wellbeing, stress management, and coping skills
  • Identify severe cases and ensure safe referral to specialized mental health services
  • Maintain confidential case records, reports, and monitoring data
  • Coordinate with project team, protection actors, and referral partners
  • Ensure all activities follow survivor-centered, Do No Harm, and confidentiality principles
  • Adhere strictly to PSEA, safeguarding, and UN policies
  • Support monitoring, reporting, and documentation as required by the project

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Psychiatry, Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, or related field
  • Fluency in Uzbeki Language is desirable

Experience

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in:

  • Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
  • Community-based psychosocial interventions
  • Experience working with women, girls, GBV survivors, or vulnerable populations is highly desirable
  • Previous experience with NGOs, UN agencies, or humanitarian projects is an asset

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of MHPSS in humanitarian settings
  • Knowledge of Psychological First Aid (PFA) and referral pathways
  • Familiarity with IASC MHPSS Guidelines and protection principles
  • Ability to conduct group sessions, case management, and referrals
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills

Language & IT Skills

  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto (mandatory)
  • Working knowledge of English (preferred)
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, email)
