AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

As the main aim of AFGA's humanitarian response, health facilities are improving RMNCAH services in hard-to-reach areas of the country. AFGA is hiring trained/ qualified MHT nutrition Nurse for it’s a MHTs. The Nutrition Nurse is responsible for delivering quality nutrition and nursing services at health facilities and through mobile health teams. The role involves GMP, screening, admission, and follow-up of children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM), conducting food demonstrations, and providing counseling on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF).

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for conducting all other nutrition activities such as Growth monitoring of all U2 year children and screening of children under five and PLWs for acute malnutrition using MUAC or weight\height scale for children.
  • Classify children in normal, Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) categories
  • Admit eligible children to the Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).
  • Check children’s appetite for Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) before admission.
  • Conduct follow-up visits on a Bi-weekly basis to assess the condition of SAM children and provide rations based on the IMAM guideline.
  • Administer Vitamin A if the child has not received Vitamin A supplementation during the previous NID.
  • Promote consumption of iodized salt and a healthy diet.
  • Work closely with MHT staff to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed upon.
  • Work closely with the team to ensure all children and PLWs are screened correctly.
  • Ensure comprehensive health checks and treatment according to the protocols for nutrition cases detected.
  • In coordination with the medical doctor and Medical Unit, ensure adequate availability of all food supplies in the MHT.
  • particularly tracing of children who are absent from the program, sick children, long stay children, children not gaining weight, and children with social problems, etc.
  • Briefing to beneficiaries on how to use the drugs, RUTF, RUSF, other food, and when to return for a follow-up visit.
  • Collect accurate nutrition information and updated stock cards using HMIS standard formats.
  • Reviewing and Mapping of the communities that have poor access to health and nutrition services.
  • Community sensitization and conduct counseling for caregivers of all children under two years children on appropriate infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices and on prevention of infections based on their status.
  • Provide regular follow-up for severely acute malnourished children until recovery.
  • Ensure the availability of essential drugs, supplies, and therapeutic products for the team and health facilities.
  • Strengthen and maintain a referral system and service linkages with health facilities.
  • Register and report all activities, including the supplies distributed, the number of beneficiaries, the SAM and MAM cases, the date and location of services, and report those on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the line manager or organization.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduated from a well-known Nursing institute and completed the MoPH exit exam.
  • Attended basic nutrition training, particularly MIYCN, IYCF, IMAM, and HMIS.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant work experience in nutrition or clinical care.
  • Ability to develop activity plans and reports.
  • Fluency in Pashto and Dari (speaking and writing); English proficiency is highly recommended.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to supervisor inquiries.
  • Priority will be given to the local female candidates.
