(www.johanniter-int.org) is a German non-governmental organisation, dedicated to excellence in the field of first aid, ambulance service, social service programmes and other projects in the medical and social field. The Federal Headquarters are based in Berlin, Germany. Johanniter International Assistance is the operational unit for humanitarian aid, development co-operation and emergency relief, implementing and supporting mostly health projects worldwide.

Johanniter is working is Afghanistan since October 2002 providing emergency aid, rehabilitation of health facilities, medical care and capacity building for community health workers, students, teachers and professionals of NGOs and government agencies in disaster preparedness and first aid skills. Johanniter’s country office is located in Kabul and has operational coverage in the North, Northeastern and central region with possibility of expansion in the South and Western provinces of Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Dispense medicines to all patients according to the doctor’s prescription
  2. Provide counselling to patients regarding the proper usage of prescribed medications
  3. Routinely monitor the expiry dates of medicines, ensuring that those with short expiry dates will be used first before they expire.
  4. Keep the drug store clean, store medicines appropriately, and keep the up to date, to be easily checked
  5. Monitor and ensure optimum room temperatures are maintained and chart room temperatures regularly. A
  6. Prevent physical damage and contamination of drugs.
  7. Ensure all stock-related reports and inventories are completed.
  8. Notify the clinical officer in charge of the drug stock levels to ensure no stock outs.
  9. Work with other health staff to ensure wards/clinic areas are appropriately stocked with essential equipment and supplies.
  10. Ensure regular inventory and consumption tracking of medical drugs and supplies.
  11. Work with relevant staff to ensure prompt requesting of medical drugs and supplies.
  12. Carry out daily duties as per the duty roster.
  13. Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit, and guide them to enable staff to perform in their positions successfully.
  14. Provide pharmaceutical support and mentorship to other clinic staff, providing on-the-job training where needed.
  15. Ensure all dispensary documents are completed promptly in JUH standard
  16. Maintain up-to-date stock inventories.
  17. Ensure the application of RMU at the HF level 
  18. Daily stocks update
  19. Compile and submit stock consumption reports for each month

  • Bachelor or Diploma in pharmacy
  • 1-2 years’ relevant work experience
  • Good mathematical skills
  • Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with the local health representatives.
  • Skills to provide sensitive and appropriate medical counselling.
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure in a stressful environment, displaying patience, compassion, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to be innovative, flexible, and adaptive, and willingness to work out of hours, sometimes throughout the night.
  • Ability to live in challenging conditions and ability to work under difficult, high-pressure situations

  • Fluency in Pashto/Dari
