About MEDAIR:

Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programs mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district.  The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend the utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs, and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.

Job Descriptions:

Overall purpose

To provide safe transportation for Medair staff & Maintenance of Medair Vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide transportation for Medair (International) staff.
  • To be flexible and willing to assist in other areas of work.
  • To adhere strictly to Medair driver’s SOP and policies.
  • Any other activities not listed in the JD but requested by line manager.

Specific responsibilities:

  • To drive Medair vehicles as required following Medair and Afghanistan traffic law regulations.
  • To clean and care for Medair vehicles.
  • To refuel the vehicle in a timely manner so that the fuel level is never below ½ of a tank.
  • To be familiar with the layout Medair project areas, specifically Uruzgan Districts.
  • To maintain contact with Medair base according to regulations.
  • To ensure that vehicles are properly equipped before leaving departure location.
  • To strictly follow the security guidelines set forth for Medair drivers.
  • To correctly use Medair protocol with regard to check calls, call sign and breaks during travel.
  • To accurately keep a log book.
  • To have an up-to-date driver’s license at all times.
  • To make sure the vehicle documents are kept in order at all times.
  • To ensure the proper and safe loading and unloading of vehicles.
  • To ensure vehicles are maintained according to Medair`s maintenance schedule.
  • To report all vehicles safety problems and accident promptly.
  • To do general maintenance service including but not limited to changing oil, changing transmission fluids, change tiers, breaks.
  • To ensure that the Medair vehicles, generators and motorbikes are maintained according to Medair fleet management schedule in Uruzgan, and field bases when required by line manager.

General Responsibilities:

  • To provide transportation for Medair staff.
  • To be flexible and willing to assist in other areas of work.
  • To adhere strictly to Medair’s Driver SOP and policies.

Additional requirements:

  • To improve knowledge of Uruzgan routes and regular destinations.
  • To carry out other tasks as requested by the PSM or Logistics Officer.
  • To adhere to general NRS staff regulations at all times.

Job Requirements:

Education: Primary education is required and high school certificate is preferred. And applicants should have a valid driving license and also knowledge and experience of mechanic is required.

Relevant experience: At least 2 years relevant experience is required and driving experience with other NGOs is desirable.

Languages: Fluent written and spoken Pashto, basic understanding of English.
