About WSTA:

Watan’s Social and Technical Services Association (WSTA) is a Nonprofit and Non-Governmental Organization that was established in 1992 with the aim to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable Afghan communities. WSTA is registered with the Ministry of Economy under license number 352, and with the UNOPS office, based on code No. WON and Registration No. OPS-CR-0535. WSTA is a member of ANCB and ACBAR.

Since its establishment, WSTA has supported the most vulnerable and conflict-affected men, women, and children. We have partnered with UNHCR, UNOCHA, UNWFP, IOM, IRC, Care International, Australia Aid, Canada Fund, and Relief International to provide humanitarian aid through over 200 projects implemented across 20 provinces of Afghanistan. With our headquarter in Kabul, we have 10 active provincial offices in Parwan, Bamyan, Ghazni, Nangarhar, Paktia, Khost, Paktika, Panjshir, Herat, Daikundi and active presence in Kandahar and Balkh. Currently, WSTA has 400 active employees which include 320 males and 80 females. WSTA provides livelihood, vocational training, education, shelter, water, and food assistance to the most vulnerable communities particularly women in Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

The Tailoring Instructor will be responsible for providing high-quality, hands-on training in tailoring and dressmaking. The role is designed to equip women beneficiaries with practical skills in producing professional tailoring products that can enhance their employability, income generation, and economic independence.

3. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured training sessions in tailoring, cutting, sewing, and finishing garments to women beneficiaries.
  • Provide practical demonstrations on tailoring techniques including use of sewing machines, pattern making, measurements, fabric cutting, and stitching.
  • Develop a simple training plan and daily/weekly lessons aligned with the project objectives.
  • Ensure beneficiaries acquire skills to produce professional-quality garments and products.
  • Monitor and evaluate participants’ progress and provide individual guidance where needed.
  • Promote creativity, problem-solving, and quality standards in tailoring work.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment at the Women’s Community Center.
  • Collaborate with WSTA project staff to document training progress and prepare reports.
  • Ensure proper use and care of tailoring tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Encourage women beneficiaries to consider income-generating opportunities after completing the training.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a tailoring instructor, trainer, or professional tailor.
  • Strong practical skills in tailoring, including cutting, sewing, finishing, and designing.
  • Prior experience training women or working in community-based programs is highly desirable.
  • Ability to develop and deliver practical lessons tailored to participants’ needs.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with sensitivity to cultural and gender contexts.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor beneficiaries with patience and respect.
  • Literacy in Dari or Pashto; basic English skills are an asset.
