Established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, the Afghan Women's Educational Center (AWEC) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, nonpolitical, and nongovernmental organization dedicated to advocating for and raising awareness about the rights of women and children in Islam.
Our core activities focus on empowering women, eliminating violence, and increasing women's participation in both domestic and societal spheres.

Since 2002, AWEC has collaborated with women and communities to enhance access to education, health, and vocational services in Afghanistan. Our initiatives extend to livelihood improvement, protection, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), humanitarian aid, grant management, capacity building, social rehabilitation, cohesion, and justice. AWEC has successfully implemented projects in Logar, Faryab, Kapisa, Khost, Panjshir, Wardak, Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan provinces, maintaining an active presence in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan.

The PSS based in Badakhshan province plays a vital role within the Program/ WPHF team by delivering compassionate, client-centered psychosocial counseling and crisis intervention services. This position is key to assessing beneficiary needs, developing and reviewing individualized care plans, and coordinating with partner organizations to ensure continuous and holistic support for vulnerable individuals, including survivors of SGBV and child abuse.
Responsibilities:
Conduct initial assessments of clients’ situations to determine the beneficiary’s situation.
Provide in-person psychosocial counseling sessions to individuals and groups.
Develop service plans and conduct reviews as needed throughout treatment.
Provide PPS assessments, counseling, referrals, and intervention services.
Provide crisis intervention as needed.
Refer individuals to appropriate treatment centers, as necessary.
Ensure that all case files and other records strictly comply with policies, regulations, and procedures.
Coordinate treatment plans and maintain ongoing contact with partner organizations to ensure the continual care for the beneficiaries.
Actively participate in ongoing training as needed to meet all certification standards and credentialing policies
Education and Experience:
A Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, or received certified PSS training as per MOPH standard.
A Minimum of 3 years of proven experience working with vulnerable clients, including survivors of SGBV and victims of child abuse.
Knowledge and Skills:
Familiarity with IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish working relations with target communities and project team.
Fluent in speaking and writing English and Dari languages.
Computer literate.
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
