About Rehabilitation Association and Agriculture Development for Afghanistan (RAADA):

Rehabilitation Association and Agriculture Development for Afghanistan (RAADA) started its humanitarian activities in 2002. As a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), RAADA started working in Herat Province and extended its activities in western Afghanistan (Herat, Farah, Ghor, and Badghis Provinces) with the Vision “Poverty no Longer Exists in the World” and the Mission Statement “Mitigating Poverty and Contributing to Reconstruction and Development Process in Afghanistan through Community-based Solutions and Interventions” Having a good analysis of the community needs, qualified staff, and sound management procedures, RAADA has designed and implemented various projects on Livelihood, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Human Rights, Women Empowerment, Disaster Risk Reduction, Water Supply, Health & Hygiene with the financial support it has received from CAID, JICA, Tawanmandi, UNHCR, WAR CHILD UK, UNFAO, WFP, WHH, DRC, Italian Cooperation, IRC and CRS.

Job Summary

The Saffron expert (Master Trainer) plays a key role in improving saffron cultivation, processing, and marketing practices. She works directly with the local trainers, trainees, facilitators, and processors to enhance productivity, quality, and income generation through sustainable saffron farming and enhanced processing quality of saffron.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop training materials on saffron cultivation, pest management, harvesting, packaging, and marketing.
  • Conduct the Training of Trainers (ToT) for the local trainers on best practices in saffron field management, saffron production, and processing.
  • Facilitate the local trainers to ensure effective knowledge transfer to trainees.
  • Assess current farming practices and recommend improvements to boost yield and quality.
  • Ensure access to high-quality saffron corms and guide proper use of fertilizers and water.
  • Support post-harvest handling, storage, and processing activities.
  • Assist saffron processors with product diversification and marketing strategies.
  • Provide technical support to the saffron unions and farmer groups in Balkh province.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy department is prioritized.
  • Proven ability to develop training manuals and deliver agricultural extension training.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience in saffron cultivation, production, and quality control.
  • Deep understanding of saffron value chains and market demands.
  • Experience in training of trainers (ToT) and mentoring field staff.
  • Ability to produce technical materials (manuals, posters) in local languages.
  • Strong market-oriented mindset to align production with export quality standards.
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto is highly valued.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for mentoring and team coordination.
  • Fluent in local languages and adaptable to the traditions of the target population (appearance, accents, expressions etc.)
  • At least 2 years of working experience in a similar position in a national or international NGO
  • Excellent understanding of local context, needs and challenges of the local communities
  • Successfully manages conflicting debates among the community
