MAAO has the ability to provide trainings and conducts researches in agriculture components, in agriculture education for capacity building, value chain in all relevant sectors, vocational trainings, handicrafts, Health and Nutrition, other relevant fields

Job Descriptions:

Position Description:
The Female Veterinarian will be responsible for leading animal husbandry support to women-headed households, with a specific focus on backyard poultry farming. Her role is central to improving household protein intake, reducing malnutrition, and diversifying livelihood options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement poultry training modules (chick raising, feeding, hygiene, disease prevention).
  • Facilitate distribution of poultry starter kits (chicks, feed, drinkers, feeders, and medicine).
  • Monitor poultry health, conduct home visits, and intervene during outbreak scenarios.
  • Train participants on cost-effective feeding methods using local resources.
  • Help each beneficiary during the making process of houses for hens, and advice animal owners about general care, medical condition and treatment.
  • Develop training schedules, training modules and training needs.
  • Conceptualize training materials based on the project need and activities.
  • Coordinate and monitor enrollment, schedules, costs and equipment.
  • Track egg production, poultry mortality, and household consumption or sales.
  • Raise awareness about zoonotic diseases, animal-human hygiene, and proper waste management.
  • Collaborate with the agriculture and nutrition teams to integrate livestock and home gardening for better impact.
  • Prepare hardcopy of training materials such as module summaries, videos and presentation.
  • Coordinate with veterinary service providers and district livestock officers when needed.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • The duties and responsibilities set out above are not exhaustive, and the postholder may be required to carry out additional duties from time to time, subject to change with the evolution of the project progress and in accordance with project nature, MAAO, and donor requirements, which are reasonable in relation to their level of skills and experience. The post holder is required to carry out the tasks that are unforeseen issues and circumstances in relation to the project and should remain adaptable to perform responsibilities that may not be mentioned above as and when required.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience working with NGOs, UN agencies, or donor-funded livestock projects.
  • Familiarity with gender-sensitive programming and community-based approaches.
  • Knowledge of local livestock diseases and traditional practices.
  • Proficiency in local languages (Dari, Pashto, Uzbik or others as relevant).

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or animal Husbandry or equivalent degree from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on veterinary experience, especially in poultry or livestock development projects.
  • Experience working with women in vulnerable and rural settings is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of animal nutrition, vaccinations, and disease control.

Language Skills

  • Fluency in Dari, Pashto, Uzbaki and English language skills (writing, speaking, reading and understanding)
