Women Activities & Social Service Association (WASSA) was established in 2002 in Afghanistan as a non-governmental organization, committed to seeking ways for women's empowerment in Afghanistan. WASSA aims to promote women's equal participation in socio-economic sectors of the country. WASSA works directly with communities to bring change in the social attitude of the community regarding women.

• Identify women entrepreneurs through community mobilization.
• Establish new VSLA groups in targeted locations and develop bylaws for these groups.
• Provide information on VSLA to facilitate self-selection and train members on VSLA methodology.
• Conduct elections to form management committees for each group.
• Encourage engagement in community-led initiatives and social projects.
• Link VSLAs with relevant stakeholders (government programs, NGOs, UN agencies) for additional support.
• Assess VSLA groups based on their sustainability and financial stability.
• Recognize well-performing groups with graduation events and certificate distribution.
• Provide follow-up support to graduated VSLAs to ensure their continued success.
• Offer opportunities for a peer-to-peer learning program for VSLA members.
• Conduct monthly mentorship meetings with VSLAs.
• Provide on-the-job training on saving and loan practices for VSLA members.
• Undertake community vulnerability assessments in target communities to define community gaps and inform planning.
• Jointly lead the identification and selection of project clients with the communities and local leaders/authorities using a set of criteria.
• Collaborate with the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLAs) to empower groups in identifying training needs and developing plans and goals for individual and group businesses.
• Facilitate planning and organization of village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) and promote awareness of the VSLA strategy among communities and local leaders.
• Develop a work plan to ensure effective implementation of VSLA-related activities as outlined in the detailed implementation plan.
• Ensure all VESAs are properly utilized, providing training and technical supervision to members.
• Regularly monitor, follow up, and provide technical support to VSLA members to ensure quality practices and functions meet established standards.
• Facilitate the identification of village-level VSLA agents to enhance community awareness and ensure ownership/sustainability of the VSLA approach.
• Provide monthly written feedback on training and the progress made by the groups.
• Provide high-quality case studies, quotes, and photographs to support fundraising for the program.
