Job Summary:

The Psychosocial Counselor is responsible for providing individual and group counseling to children and caregivers, conducting social investigations, and delivering training on child development and parenting. The role includes supporting social workers and CFS staff, implementing psychoeducational programs, and monitoring Child-Friendly Spaces. The Counselor also conducts home visits, raises awareness among caregivers, coordinates with mental health services, and prepares regular reports on referred cases. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Job Description:

  • Provide psychological support (one on one or group counseling) to the project target groups
  • Undertake the social investigation about each individual child case and ensure that all related information is collected properly through reliable sources. 
  • Conduct training for the community on psychological child development and parenting skills, etc.
  • Provide counseling training and technical counseling support to social workers, volunteers, community structures, CFS facilitators directly involved with the psychosocial component of the project. 
  • Develop and implement psychoeducational programs focusing on topics such as anger management, stress reduction, self-esteem building, and coping skills.
  • Monitoring the child-friendly spaces for ensuring adequate child protection services. 
  • Ensure timely implementation of psychosocial support activities for affected children. 
  • Coordinate services to beneficiaries with other organizational entities involved in psychosocial and mental health services. 
  • Conduct home visits to assess individual psychosocial needs. 
  • Conduct weekly awareness raising session for caregivers.
  • Develop a plan to follow up the referred cases.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly counseling reports on the referred cases and provide the best solutions to cases. 
  • Perform any other professional duty assigned to the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Sciences, or a related medical field with a background in psychosocial support is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in delivering psychosocial services, particularly to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and street-working children, is an asset.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong report writing and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
    • Solid understanding of child protection principles, including child care protocols and children’s rights.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for working with children and vulnerable communities.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Mobility: Willingness and ability to travel to and monitor activities in various districts and rural areas as required.
