UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results for a novel approach to supporting midwifery interventions within the Family Health House  (FHH) setting ; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results. The National Technical Midwife will report to the  Roving Area Offices Manager.

For the Field Offices:

• Provide technical midwifery support to work planning for SDPs.
• Contribute to ongoing UNFPA efforts in spearheading innovations for enhanced reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH) demand creation and service delivery, with a particular focus on midwifery and maternal health.
• Contribute to raising the visibility of UNFPA’s work around midwifery and its impact on communities in the remote and under-served ‘white’
• areas of Afghanistan by writing articles, reports, posts, presentations, and more.
• Ensure that UNFPA-supported midwives are updated on midwifery evidence-based practice (updates, toolkits, on-the-job training, etc.) on a regular basis.
• Plan and conduct frequent supervisory visits to remote all SDPs (including FHHs, MHTs) in white areas to identify challenges and provide solutions.
• Contribute to the development of SOPs for field offices’ implementation of SDPs.
• Coordinate with colleagues in field offices and roving field managers to support direct implementation of SDPs.

For the Country Office (CO):

• Participate in provincial RMNCH different committees, and provide technical input, if required.
• Participate in advocacy events to increase the role of midwives.
• Coordinate with MRH and Humanitarian Units on technical matters regarding midwifery

Note: The consultant may be asked to undertake any other tasks required by their supervisor/office. 

Deliverables:

• Monthly reports on specific SDPs supported; 
• Develop SOPs for monitoring SDPs; 
• Schedule and document periodic meetings with midwives and provide feedback to the supervisor on key achievements, challenges, and recommendations for each SDP.

Qualifications and Experience: 

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Midwifery. Bachelor’s degree with additional years of relevant experience can be considered in lieu of Master’s degree. 

Knowledge and Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience (or 4 years with Bachelor degree) in midwifery practice from a recognized public or private health facility that provides Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (BEmONC). 
• Being a registered midwife with a valid license to practice by a regulatory body for midwifery or nursing professionals.
• Having completed the Helping Mothers Survive and Helping Baby Survive training program would be an added value.
• Field-based research experience is an added value.
• Excellent English speaking and writing skills.

The consultant is expected to provide all necessary equipment to complete the assignment (computer, software, phone, etc).
